The point to remember is, you can't just take a greek words root word and pick a definition. The word is not AION but AIONOS. That ending "os" is like taking the word believe and adding "ing" to make it believing.

So we see how grammar is involved

Second, you have to look at the context too in order to see how a word should be translated. When you consider the grammar and the context then we see aionos was rightly translated.

OK, but does Hell make sense?

For the answer to that I default to my first post. It makes sense as a final destination for some people whose names were not written in the lambs book of life. In your initial proposition you gave the opinion of some. The "Hell" of the bible makes sense.

The goats will go into eternal punishment. But what is it? Ezekiel in the OT says the soul that sins shall die. Ez. 18:4

Jesus said those that dont believe will PERISH. Perish means "die".

The eternal punishment is the death of the soul/person accomplished in the lake of fire which is called THE SECOND DEATH.

But see, the problem is, "Some People". How does a person know their name is written in this Book? If they can't see it, they don't know. It's a guess.

In other words, what does a person have to do to not go there? Do we have to be good? What if we're just a little bit bad? People are weak, Prax, and that includes you and I. We can drift in and out of our focus and love for God, and God's mercy is our deepest need.

So many people on our Planet are born, raised, and die with limited understanding and I don't want to carry the guilt of condemning others because they are different than me.

I Pastored in an Indian Village for 2 years, and this eye-opening experience shattered my shallow views of other cultures and how Christians have done bad things in the name of God and Faith. Hell was used to scare these people into obeying the “New Way”, and children were beaten for speaking their native tongue.

A good movie that brings out some thought on this subject is “The Rabbit Proof Fence”.

How hard is it to believe that "all have sinned". Sin shall not enter into Heaven.

Mental handicapped people will most likely be treated as children (although no one knows!) Children will be pure up until the age of accountability (who knows where God set that at, when on knows right from wrong?)

Second, why are you worried about others souls. We should first worry about our own, and then witness to those that are lost (not fret weither they will/are saved or not.)

If the issue is "Who will go to hell"? I don't pretend to know all the details.

If the issue is "Who will not Go to hell", I believe the bible is clear we need to believe on Jesus

If the issue is "Does Hell exist and is it forever", the answer is Yes emphatically

if the issue is "what happens to those in hell?" the answer is I don't know exactly

Sorry, Timmy, the only popcorn available in Hell are old, stale, artificially-colored popcorn balls that Grandma made several years ago.

Prax, it seems Paul believed saints go to be with the Lord immediately upon death in 2 Cor 5, and do not soul-sleep. Are you saying both saints and the wicked soul sleep, or just the wicked? Thanks.
