Frankly, if a minister can't control his tongue, he's not worth his salt.

And then there's the issue of being a father, trying to raise a boy to be Christian gentleman in this world with preachers talking like this. As a Christian and a father, I think it also shows a fundamental lack of respect for every parent in the sanctuary if you say it within earshot of their children. Frankly, if my son began to use words like that calling his friends or kids he doesn't like "queers" or "fags", I'd do two things. First, I'd tell him that Christian men don't talk that way. We are to bless our enemies and pray for them, not curse them. Then I'd go to that pastor and put my finger in his chest and tell him what I think of him.... but I'd choose to do it in a public forum so that everyone could hear that my boy was picking up language like that....from him. ;)

Did you even read what I said? You aren't trying to get my point.

Bro, if you want to talk like that do it on your time. Preach the Word in the pulpit, if you have the guts. If my son where to hear you use terms like "queer", "fag", "faggot", "twinky", etc. .... I'd have to confront you on it. Don't use my kid's ears as a dumping ground for that garbage. You wouldn't want me to teach your kids to use the "b--ch" word. Have so R-E-S-P-E-C-T. First, if you talk like this over the pulpit you show that you have no respect for any parent in the congregation. Secondly, you show you have no respect for yourself.

It's not about being politically correct. It's about being a Christian gentleman.

You're just trying to justify why you feel it's ok to speak like that behind the pulpit. Now, if you and I are hanging out in the back yard eating BBQ and the kids are playing football out in the yard and you want to use those words between us in a semi private conversation, that's one thing. But over the pulpit is what I'm talking about. The pulpit. At least have some respect for the pulpit and the kids that are going to take their ques from you. This will sound funny, but I have a two year old right now. I don't want him to hear you saying the word "faggot" or "queer" when we're out and about... he'll eventually start repeating it or saying it at the most inopportune times, that's what kids do. lol If you can't see where I'm coming from, you need more than your mouth washed out. hehehe

Now, I'm going to enjoy my glass of Cabernet Sauvignon and a plate of Brie. Ah... the taste of cherry, blackberry, and a hint of chocolate, concluded well with a smooth oak finish. Mmmm.

No. I never did. I tried unsuccessfully several times to get you to tell us WHAT WORD should we use. First you said "we don't take our ques" from the Homosexuals....but then you said we don't use words that offend them so I pointed out we DO take our ques from them.

You said "just preach the word" and I pointed out the word uses sodomites...you said no to that word too.

I said, just about anything we say or do will be taken by someone as offensive.

Then I said I don't have a problem admitting I take my ques from them when I used words that they say are not offensive to them.

Please quote me. I don't recall saying that we shouldn't use the word Sodomite. I may have mentioned that I wouldn't use it personally and given my reasoning as to why. But bro...that's a biblical term. Have at it. If the homosexual community can't take it, their beef's with the Bible not you. But if you're screaming words like "faggot" and "queer" from the pulpit, you're out of line.

Bro...stick to the Word. I see no serious issues with the terms:

Sodomites
Dogs
Perverts
Sinners
Reprobates

Maybe you could get away with the terms "Homosexuals" and "gays" because they have evolved into a near official term for people of their disposition.

I'm sure there are other terms. But bro, I really don't want my kids using words like "faggot" or "queer". Please don't make me have to discipline him and tell him that he can't trust the man of God to speak like a Christian.

Bro... we know the Bible speaks against head strong unsubmitted women. Would you use the term "b--ch" to describe them over the pulpit? It would be accurate. lol But it wouldn't be proper for a Christian to speak that way.

I'm just saying have some respect for the pulpit, your listeners, parents, the kids, and yourself. Use biblical terms or technical terms. It shows you have a message so important you're not willing to destroy it's impact by being personally offensive when you don't have to be. All I'm asking is that men of God be Christian in the pulpit. Sadly, some of you love your curse words so much, you can't see my point.

Great! So you think Sodomite is a perfectly fine word to use from the pulpit because it is in teh bible?

You aren't reading what I said. I said NO NO NO , we DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT use those words. That is why I said I take my QUES from them...because i would not use a word that offends them,. Good grief

BTW why is sodomite ok? If there is a gay person there that word might offend them. And you are ok with pervert too though that might offend them?

Sure. I wouldn't fault you one bit for using. Me personally, I'd use it sparingly because I tend to accentuate grace and dignity as much as possible in the pulpit, making my points like a gentleman and closing points by allowing the WORD to deliver it's rebuke. I tend to say, "Now church, those aren't my words, that's the Bible." But that's my style. If I felt the unction to use the word Sodomite thought, I'd use it. No problem.

Praxeas, I was under the impression that you were saying that if we avoid those words we're taking our ques from them. My point, as you can see, is that we shouldn't UNNECESSARILY offend by using unnecessary inflammatory words. We're bound to offend the sinner sometime. But I'd feel much better knowing it was the Word that offended them and not me. Like I said, I fall back with grace and say something like, "You know I love everyone of you, and I'd never say anything to hurt you, but folks, that's Bible." Let the Bible speak. I think it does a better job than we do most of the time anyway.

Hey guys, I've just finished my Brie and wine. I'm going to settle in now and get some rest. I love you guys, I hope you know that. I also hope that you understand that I'd like to see a revival of Christian civility and grace. I think we've lost something with our bombastic, uncouth, brazen, crassness. It's almost like we wear it as a badge of honor. I personally don't think it's all that honorable.
I Timothy 6:3-4
3If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;
4He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,
James 1:26
If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
Romans 12:14
Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.

Matthew 18:6 (NIV)
6But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.
Keep in mind that when you're behind the pulpit, children are listening.
