THAT is the one thing that is so often not brought up in these events. Poor construction causes even greater loss of life when something like an earthquake hits.

True.

So because there is no record of God's judgement recorded in those writings we chose to canonize, do we no longer believe God will judge the nations prior to the Great and Final Day of Judgement?

My point with A&S was to show God's judgement was still active in the NT.

NOW, and I actually agree with you. This is why I don't agree with us seeing our own nation as the Chiefest among nations, and praying for the doom of others. A separate issue, but related to this same line of thought.

Mark it down, we agree today :)

Pat Robertson doesn't speak for me, nor most Christians. I guarantee you a large majority of Christians would disagree with his statements. Unfortunately he has a show and the press loves to get this guy on the news and show how wacky he is ... then they try to paint all Christians the same way.

I do believe in the judgement of God and that God can and does judge the nations. However, I don't believe this "pact with the devil" nonesense is responsible for the earthquake.

THis reminds me of when people said Katrina was God's Judgement on New Orleans. Please. You live on the gulf coast.... you get hurricanes, fact of life. You live in an active seismic zonw, you get earthquakes and volcanoes... fact of life.

Now when God lays a hurricane or earthquake on the adult disneyworld known as Amsterdam, I might begin to believe it. Until then, it is all about your local geography. If we get a crippling blizzard here, it will be because it is north, and it snows, not because God is punishing us.

Well said, JA! That is what I believe as well. Not only that, I really don't think we are HATED by non-christians because of dear ole Pat. He has a following and it's probably more of a particular people. Christians aren't hated, for the most part. People ARE sick and tired of religion though. They just want to see the real thing.

Does God cause these things? There is a big difference between God "causing" these calamities and knowing about them or allowing them. God doesn't have to be the "cause." He certainly knows what will happen and has said that certain things will happen, even in the end times. Are we living in those? Most certainly......to some degree! To just exactly what degree I don't really know. I didn't think we'd be here over 25 years ago let alone now. I'm not a date setter or a gloom and doomer! I do look around though and see what is happening and it just looks like the end times to me. But, we may still be here for quite a while yet, for all I know. I just want to be about my Father's business and make a difference now while we can! :D

I agree, Religion is something people are tired of. Even the movies and things in popular culture that seem anti-christian are really just anti-religion and what people have come to think of as Christianity having, never experienced and rarely having witnessed the real thing.

It's our job to show them different.

I struggle with reconciling the story of Annanias and Saphira with the New Testament God of grace and mercy. That's probably crazy to admit, but I do struggle with it.

And I see no nationalistic God of the New Testament. "For God so loved the WORLD...." I get irritated at the D. James Kennedy's of the world who try to make it sound as if God just goes goo-goo over the USA, because of our glorious founding fathers who sat on the right hand of God, but sneers at the rest of the evil world.
