Christmas Music ??

Is "Reindeer Boogie" allowed in your radio ?

This question come up at the radio station I have a DJ slot on. They have decided to not allow any kind of Christmas music unless its content is of the birth of Christ or religous content.

I happen to agree when they first asked for opinions. Then I wondered why. Of course they said they did not want the whole pagen part of Christmas on a Christian station. That is fine too, but if we stand by this then my question to them was. Are you putting up a tree this year ? Do you play "Riendeer Boogie" at home but just not on the station ?

What say ye ?

I would like to play some of the "fun" Christmas songs for the kids too. Am I wrong ?

Re: Christmas Music ??

If they allow Reindeer Boogie or Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer or any other such song on a Christian radio station at Christmas time, then next month, when it's no longer Christmas, does that mean that they need to allow Elvis to belt out Love Me Tender? Cuz you understand, SOME Christians listen to songs like that in their own homes and cars.

I think when people tune into a CHRISTIAN radio station, that is exactly the kind of music they are expecting to hear. Whether the listener has a tree or listens to secular music in their own world is not the concern of the radio station. The concern of the station is to address the needs/wants of the community of those who tune in to listen to them. I don't know about your area, but in our area, if our radio station played songs like Reindeer Boogie, they would hear from their listeners strongly and it wouldn't be in a good way.

That's just my opinion.

I probably did use a bad example in Reindeer Boogie, lol.

But to think of the Christmas Spirit.

When I hear a song I love to listen to like "Walk to Bethlehem" it gives me goose bumps because of the Love and Peace of it.

And when I listen to "Have yourself a Merry little Christmas" it makes me feel the same way. It says nothing about Jesus, just talks about the peace, love and joy of the season.

I would be ok with generic songs like Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. But the ones talking about Santa and Reindeers don't seem like they belong on a Christian station to me.

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
Don't want a doll, no dinky Tinker Toy
I want a hippopotamus to play with and enjoy

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
I don't think Santa Claus will mind, do you?
He won't have to use our dirty chimney flue
Just bring him through the front door,
that's the easy thing to do

I can see me now on Christmas morning,
creeping down the stairs
Oh what joy and what surprise
when I open up my eyes
to see a hippo hero standing there

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
No crocodiles, no rhinoceroses
I only like hippopotamuses
And hippopotamuses like me too

Mom says the hippo would eat me up, but then
Teacher says a hippo is a vegeterian

There's lots of room for him in our two-car garage
I'd feed him there and wash him there and give him his massage

I can see me now on Christmas morning,
creeping down the stairs
Oh what joy and what surprise
when I open up my eyes
to see a hippo hero standing there

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
No crocodiles or rhinoceroseses
I only like hippopotamuseses
And hippopotamuses like me too!

Unbelievable! You've never heard I Wanta Hippopotamus for Christmas? That's one of Walt's all-time favorite Christmas songs! AND he also loves Porky Pig Christmas. Two fun songs!
