Union University Destruction
I received this via email:
"I know these pictures are unbelievable...but they still do not do the magnitude of the destruction justice unless you see it in person. My friend's daughter survived this....in fact no one was killed at Union University only by God's grace. I'm grateful for that...but sorry for the people that did suffer loss of life." The friend that sent me this had this insight below: Here are some pics a friend sent from Union. She is student teaching now, so luckily she wasn't there during the storm. She will be unable to go back into her dorm at any time so she said she had to go yesterday to buy new clothes, shoes, underwear, makeup, etc. She still has to do her Student teaching in order to graduate in May, so she just has to keep going. I feel so bad for her, b/c she is so busy that she hasn't had a lot of time to stop and think about what she's missing. She said it comes to her one thing at a time. When she goes to get something, she just writes it down for insurance purposes. A couple of a student that she teaches offered for her to stay with them for the rest of the semester so she wouldn't have to get an apartment or drive from Paris each day. I'm constantly amazed at the unselfishness of people! http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...g/image001.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...g/image002.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...g/image003.jpg |

Re: Union University Destruction
This is what is so amazing about a tornado - complete utter destruction of brick, metal, wood, BUT a little piece of paper stays pinned to the wall or a small light weight bucket isn't touched.
Just amazing! http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...g/image022.jpg |

I wonder how long they will give the students to try to get their belongs out before they try to start cleanup efforts.

I remember that University so well when we visited TN, it was beautiful, immaculate and pristine--so for someone who has never lived in a Tornado area it is almost unbelievable that these monster tornados could cause this amount damage.
Unless I had seen the University before I would not have understood the magnitude of what happened and the message these pictures convey. |

And even though they will rebuild, and it will be beautiful and modern, I love the stateliness of the school. That is one of the things that I love about my daughter's college. It is stately. |
Re: Union University Destruction
Those are amazing photos! It's amazing that nobody was killed!
To add humor to a tragic situation, our accountant told us that next time he hears a tornado warning, he's going to run to a bar! The reason: You always hear about tornados hitting trailer homes, schools, churches, etc, but you never hear about a tornado hitting a bar! :lol |

Re: Union University Destruction
This university is only a couple of blocks from our church. We were so blessed to have zero damages!!!

Re: Union University Destruction
What really shows the magnitude of the storms is seeing cars & trucks weighing a couple thousand pounds being tossed around like Toys!

It's a round metal base that a sign would stand in 20 inch diameter lodged into a tree trunk like the tree was made of butter. Unbelievable. |

Re: Union University Destruction

A friend of mine had his boat blown two blocks away when a tornado came through his neighborhood years ago, but the empty Pepsi can he'd left on his picnic table in the same backyard the boat was in was still in the upright position where he'd put it before heading for shelter! |

In Utica, IL, almost four years ago, 8 people were killed, including the bar owners, after they and the patrons sought shelter in the bar's basement. Of all the destruction, they were the only storm's fatalities. |
Re: Union University Destruction
Before the storm Union University was truly a beautiful campus. I attended college
there my freshman year. That was way back in 1985-86. |

That was an amazing video, I am still just awestruck at the devastation and by the fact that no one was killed. It is truly a miracle.

Re: Union University Destruction
The UPS truck that was overturned at the entrance to Union - that's my UPS driver. He was in the truck when the tornado hit, down in the floorboard. He came in today to deliver some packages; he is very grateful to God for protection.

It's interesting too that part of the Union University sign was found 45 miles away in someone's back yard! Just unbelieve things! |
Re: Union University Destruction
UU Chapel services are supposedly very powerful times of worship, but I've never been to one personally. I've heard that they raise their hands and move around during the music - not your typical Baptist, but then this is a new generation and there is a hunger for reality in praise & worship. We have several UU students at our church on Sundays.

Re: Union University Destruction
I have slept through a tornado. We have tornadoes here quite often.
