I was lied to tonight, but kept my mouth shut
I flew into Chicago tonight, I am singing on a choir CD that Donald Lawerence is producing tomorrow night.
I get into the car and realized its not the SUV or car this church usually picks me up in. Its usually a black suburban. This was a black brand new Cadillac. I said to the driver " This is a very nice car does this belong to the church?" He said "yes". I said " When did they get it?" He said" just here recently". Just as he said that I look up and saw ENTERPRISE RENTAL on the key chain.:tantrum:tantrum:tantrum:tantrum |
Re: I was lied to tonight, but kept my mouth shut
LOL!!! Well, give him a little credit--Enterprise Rental does sell vehicles. It could be true. ;)

Re: I was lied to tonight, but kept my mouth shut
Most likely he was lying about it. Here's a question, why would one feel the need to lie about something like this? Is it that we have put such a premium on image that people feel they have to tell lies to maintain that image?
Why lie? |

Re: I was lied to tonight, but kept my mouth shut
It does belong to the church if they rented it........

I don't want to sound disrespectful. But I'm wondering what difference does it make whether the car belongs to the church or not? I'm not ok with lying, but sometimes I wonder why it is that we all have this need to impress each other with what we have (which would be the reason he might have lied to you, I'm thinking?) At our Bible study last night we were discussing the night that the rich kid came to Jesus and asked what he needed to do to be saved. Jesus told him to sell all he had and give it to the needy and then come follow him, but the man went away sad. I wonder if how many of us Christians are very much like that young man, even if we don't want to admit it. Not only do want to impress others with what we have, but we also want to be impressed by what others have. I think we have a tendency to measure the worth of other people by their possessions instead of measuring their worth by God's yardstick. Ok, sorry. This is just my soapbox for the day. |
Re: I was lied to tonight, but kept my mouth shut
Pentecostal divorce ... is when married saints don't co-habitate for long periods of time (separated).
We had one couple, both involved in ministry in their respective churches, who for over 20 plus years (maybe longer) ... lived in seperate regions of the United States. Also, a lot men, usually, who emigrated from Latin America in our Spanish churches .... would come, work, send money to their families ... but never would send for them ... or the wife ... sometimes for years ... and sometimes never. We would say among ourselves that they had a "Pentecostal divorce". |

Sandra,
I would've asked him if he could stop by Enterprise because you were thinking of renting a car ... You might have gotten a better gauge if he was lying or not. |

Re: I was lied to tonight, but kept my mouth shut
Our 2006 Ford Freestar Van used to be an Enterprise Rental. They sold this particular vehicle after 20,000 miles.
Got a great deal. There was no Enterprise Keychain but there was Enterprise paperwork, brochures etc in the glove box. But, then again, I didn't buy it directly from Enterprise. I bought it from a micro dealer who, in turn, bought it from Enterprise. |
Re: I was lied to tonight, but kept my mouth shut
If the driver was anything like me, he probably never noticed the keychain and just did what he was told... pick up that there singer gal from the airport! lol... (but most guys notice things when it comes to vehicles!)

I think the whole thing is going to end up having been the truth.

Re: I was lied to tonight, but kept my mouth shut
IDK, but my thinking would be, if I am going to buy a Cadillac -AND If I did not want anyone to think it was a rental--the first thing to do would be GET RID OF THE KEY CHAIN!!! :lol

Because if you buy the Cadillac in the first place for image purposes you wouldn't keep the key chain. I guess that is point that I was making :groan |

I was just offering the transverse. One wouldn't necessarily buy a Cadillac for status although some/many very well might. I would not prefer a Cadillac. I prefer the Lincoln Town Car and I like that car for its comfort, smooth ride and the track record of performance that I have experienced with that vehicle. One day I would like to find a good used Mercedes to buy as well. Not for status but for the safety record of the vehicle as well as the nice ride that I would expect. I have never driven one but should actual experience meet up with my expectations then I would see a good used Mercedes as a wise choice as long as there is a good maintenance record with it. These vehicles can, indeed, be bought for status purposes but this is not always the case. |
Re: I was lied to tonight, but kept my mouth shut
Who says the keychain came w/ the car ... what if someone just likes the Enterprise keychain look?

But if a church buys a Cadillac, umm makes me think they bought it for image sake--but that is my view. I understand that there are churches that send limousines to pick up their guest speakers. I believe it is all about image, and the image being perhaps, is that they believe God's people deserve the best- ( I am not saying that this is my view, but that of some ministries) If a ministry does not espouse to that view (I am not saying it's right or wrong) why buy a Cadillac? Why not buy a van?? My husband and I have been escorted in Vans -- IDK. Oh well makes for interesting dialog, and I am all about interesting dialog on AFF--(love it :thumbsup) |

People do what they have to do........I knew a family that would "borrow" their clothes from our local boutique to go to General Conference.
I NEVER understood that! |
