How does one know when they've been called to preach?

I can't speak for anyone else but my father has always said that he never got a "call", he simply had a burden for the church and God kept opening the doors, and he kept walking through them. I think it starts with a burden, is my short answer.

So does someone feeling that they are "called" mean that they are now the "anointed" that God says we can longer "touch"?

If that is the case..... then I AM CALLED!

I have never been called to preach, I don't think! :)

That being said, I think one knows in their heart. One might seek affirmation, but it really is between you and God. I think that some have been called only to be turned back by their pastor for one reason or another. I know a pastor who told a young 21 year old that he was not called to preach. It turns out that his own son was 21 years old, and the pastor was grooming his son. Well.....the 21 year old kid left and started his own work in his home. Within five years the kid was running over 400 in attendance!

I'm not against pastors giving you advise, but the only way to know for sure is to get out there and preach and see what happens.

I think it has something to do with being outside and seeing the clouds look like a G and a P. At least I think maybe that could be it.

We were talking about this in my last home-church group. We believe EVERY man should aspire to be an elder and should become apt to teach, if he is not already apt to teach. The qualifications of an elder are not supernatural qualifications, they are character traits that every man can achieve. Not everyone can be a prophet or an apostle, but every man can be an elder. So our call as men to preach is not some voice from the sky, it is the burden every man should feel to mentor the younger men, to teach in the assembly and to be able to preach the Gospel to the lost.

Or when they've been called to be a stay-at-home mom?

Or when they've been called to.......................................

I do believe that God calls some to preach. But I also believe that when God calls someone to some other calling in life, it is no less a true calling from God than when God calls someone to preach. What do you all think?

The call to preach, IMO, is unique to every individual. Its really hard to answer without going into detail on ones personal experience. My call to the ministry began with prophesy. I'd go to church, someone would call me out and say "You are called to the ministry". We'd visit churches we'd never been to, at some point, the preacher would point at me and say, "God is calling you to preach". I went to one church (got there late- the preacher was already preaching-), as soon as I stepped in the door, the preacher looked at me and said "That young man walking through the door is called to be a preacher of the Gospel!" I began to pray about it and, through a series of visions, the Lord began to speak with me (I know some here may not believe in visions but...well, that is my experience). I preached my first sermon on a street corner after God spoke to me heart to preach the Gospel in the streets . It wasn't until later though, that I came to understand what my ministry election was. So, I don't think anyone can really answer how one would know he (or she) is called to the ministry. I think, though, whoever said that a clear and unmistakable burden to reach lost souls with the Gospel is a good indicator, answered as closely as one can. It all begins right there.

It all depends on who calls you.

Many of the ministers today have forgotten who was on the other end of the line.

To them they think it was Warren Buffett.

And their investments are growing by the number of saints sowing into their field.
