High Risk Population

Hey all

With my job I always have to do upgrade training. I am presently studying a class on alcoholism. What would be the answer that you would give to this question?

1) Discuss a population that is at high risk for substance abuse and explain why they are at risk and what could be done to reduce the risk.

Thanks

Those who were raised by alcoholic parents- seen it in the church
environmental, learned behavior

People who go thru divorices or a death in the family or have
serious financial problems and have nowhere to turn are suseptable
as well

Ah, a sigh of relief.

I am going to say adolescents because the highest ranking types of addiction on the Macdonald scales. Social addictions far outreach the lone chemical dependancies.

According to some recent studies I have seen, those that have other mental/emotional/psychological issues with which to contend are also at high risk for substance abuse.

Adolescents who have grown up with undiagnosed cases of ADD or ADHD will try to self-medicate with alcohol later in life in an effort to "fit in" with the rest of society.

Those who are diabetics are from families of diabetics. Seems to be a corelation between the two.
