Would you want me in YOUR church?

Our pastor announced this morning that he is going to resign as pastor of our church and that he will be becoming a missionary. This is not going to happen fast. In fact, he doesn't plan to leave until the end of next May, which will give his oldest daughter time to graduate high school. He, his wife and his other 3 children will be going to Indonesia to serve as missionaries.

Ok, so here's the deal. This is the THIRD pastor I've sat under who has left our church to go to the mission field. Two in the UPC and this one in the Alliance Church?

So what? Am I wearing a t-shirt that says, "I train future missionaries" ? Sure feels that way!

How many of you have ever sat under a pastor who left to go to the mission field? I'm just curious.

This has only happened to me once many years ago. But more recently, I was a store manager for several years and kept losing my assistant managers as they got promotions to run their own stores. Hurry for them. Pain for me. LOL

Our pastor and his wife came to us from the mission feilds. His wife grew up on the feild withg upc missionary parents.

Two years ago he announced they had applied to the Foriegn Missions Dept. After 6 years with us our church was shocked to hear this.

They'd really be great teacher on the mission feild as they speak 6 or 7 languages between them.

We are so thankful they were not holy enought to get past the good ol boys at FMD interview.

All they would have had to do was lie and say yes they believe women cutting hair and such stuff was gonna send people to hell.

Hope they stay with us for a good long while.

Be thankful your pastor is going to the mission field. My last pastor left our church then left his wife a few months later for another man.

I once felt a call to the mission field.

I flet I should buy a houseboat and minister to those who go to the lake every weekend..

It didn't pan out, as I could not get enough PIM's.

Sister, I guess it depends on whether I wanted the pastor to leave or not. I will keep you in mind if I ever have a pastor I need to get out of my hair. :D

"Pastor X, I'd like you to meet Sis Margie. She's wanting to become a member of our church." The pastor says, "Sister Margie, good to meet you," as he shakes her hand. That night he has a dream that changes his life forever. The next week he announces to the church he's leaving for Moomoomba to preach the Gospel to the natives there! Rico shoots a knowing glance over to Sister Margie. Another one bites the dust!! :D

You know, you might make a side business out of this Rico. You could hire Margie out, like her agent. There are a lot of churches who would gladly send their pastor to the mission field. :evilglee

Re: Would you want me in YOUR church?

hhehee. That was good, Rico. I told our pastor that when the new guy comes, he should warn him not to even bother unpacking his bags because he won't be here long. Not as long as Sis Margie is in his church. God will be calling him to the mission field too. It's a given.

You know I believe in missions as much as the rest of you. But do I have to keep giving up MY pastor for the mission field? Can't God call one of YOUR pastors??

Even if Walt was my pastor, if my pastor left to go to the mission field, I think we'd have to have a long-distance relationship. I believe in missions. I love missions. I appreciate and honor all those who are missionaries. But pray that God never calls me to go cuz I don't make a habit of telling God "no, sorry, can't do it", but I'm afraid I might have to at that point.

Now, visiting missionaries; praying for missionaries; supporting missionaries. I LOVE to do those things! I think that's probably because that's what God has called me to do. If He called me to go to the mission field, I know He would also make me love the idea. I'm thankful that He's never made me love the idea yet. LOL

I could leave tomorrow and be thrilled, but so far that mission thing hasn't hit Eddie. It totally skipped a generation in his family. LOL! So I have to be satisfied with my 2 or 3 overseas trips a year. But I DO love it!

He says he has this fear that God is going to say to him, "Ok, the first 30 years were about you - the next 30 are going to be about Sherri". LOL!
