What length would you go to lose weight?

Check this out. This is a very dangerous practice and you may people that do this but you don't know that they are on it.

I personally cannot tolerate diet drugs...makes me all weirded out.
Just good ole' diet and exercise for me.

I wonder how addicting this drug and others like it are?

I had gastric bypass surgery. After trying everything else, that was my Godsend, and I'm thankful I went that route. I've been VERY successful and have kept it off and am 2 yrs post-op now.

It feels good for people to tell me that I'm too thin!! Not that I believe them or anything, but it's a phrase I've never heard in my life!

This September 4th will be 4 years for me. I used to weigh over 450 now about 225. I want to get to about 200 even.

Roux-en-y baby! Still the gold standard!

RD...Congrats my friend! Are you working out alot of what? All the weight I have lost-45lbs-has been just by working out I still eat about the same. Though I do skew to healthier options but nothing too strict. What are you doing to try and lose the extra 25lbs?

Yes. I exercise, lots of cardio and weights- Been doing core training. Wow! Kicked my keester! Way harder than it looks.

As far as eating, no magic here. Just high lean protein, complex carbs and fiber, and cut out the simple sugars.

Since my GB surgery, I've lost 194 pounds, but I've lost 226 from my highest weight ever, which was 4 1/2 years ago.

I wish you'd share pics. Even if you have to email them to me!!!

Dave, do you or did you have problems being cold all the time?

That's my biggest problem. My kids complain that I'm killing them because it's 80 degrees in the house and I have windows open instead of AC on, but I am quite comfy!

Even now, it's 83 degrees outside and my windows are open. Not a fan on in the house either. But at night, although there is a fan on in my window, I'm in flannel PJs and have a comforter on!

I'm hoping that working out and building muscle (which I lost as well as the fat) will help with heat retention. It's sad when my hands are ice cold and it's in the 80's!

LOL!

Maybe that's my problem....

Also, do you have problems with hypoglycemia if you don't eat?

If I eat carbs without much protein, my sugar drops an hour or so later. I have to eat protein with any carbs, and I can't have that much carbs at once either, especially complex carbs, like oatmeal, cereal, rice, potatoes....does weird things to me.

This is the key. A trainer I spoke to once told me that if a person is looking to drop an extra bit of weight then they need to switch the programs up. I do tons of cardio. I do the elliptical machine about 20 miles a week at least. I am still about 20 from where I want to be. Eating right will help me. But the trainer said instead of doing all the elliptical machine try doing half the elliptical workout for the week and the other time you would have devoted to the elliptical workout get on a treadmill and workout or take the workout out doors. That is easier said than done here in AZ. 113 yesterday when I was heading home from work at 3:30

Could be cirrulation issues. Maybe you need to circle things more often. lol

I used to. My problem now is low BP. When I stand up too fast.....yikes.

Stick with the protein. I try to eat whole grains and veggies and stay away from rice and potatoes.....most of the time.

I use the elliptical too...6 miles this morning. Weight training is a big key for me. Burn calories more efficiently.

I can't workout after working 12 hours. So it's EARLY in the morning.

The coldness after a lot of weight loss seems a common thing. I went through it. Our 'new' bodies are freaking out.

I used to always work out in the AM until my work schedule changed. My gym opens at 5 AM and I gotta be at work at 6:30 and I work more than 30 miles from home. I go in the afternoon. I only work 8 hour days, but only difference for me is that I am a little more tired during work than before. I am only 27 and so I got some years ahead of me.

I do most of the cardio on the elliptical and the treadmill. Elliptical is awesome as you know cause it is little or no impact. I don't so much focus on distance though I do more than 8 miles on Tue, Thurs, Sat and on Mon, Wed, Fri I do approx 6 miles. I do focus on the calories burned though. In a 1 hour with 10 minute cool down elliptical workout, doing the Hill Plus thing, I burn over 800 calories and complete about 8 miles. I so weight training really hard too. I take some suppliments that help gain muscle and some that help shed some fat, but none of them would work without the hard work I put in.

I have been dieting and exercising. I have hit a plateau - I am eating 1200 - 1500 cals a day, and I was riding my stationary bike for 50 minutes a day. This week I have switched to doing an interval training tape- I call it the torture tape for 20 minutes and riding the stationary bike for 30 minutes. I have lost 8/10 of a lb this week. GRRRRRRR- I am determined to loose 15 lbs!

Congrats and good luck on the uphill climb. I agree with Dave maybe you need to fuel the fire with high protein foods and lean meats. Once again good luck!

I don't know- I don't feel like I am starving myself- It is becoming an obsession with me to get this weight off. I have lost weight in the past and have not had this much trouble. Don't give me permission to eat- because I can do a great job of it. That is my problem - I love to eat. I have a question for those who have had the surgery- Do you miss food? So many of our celebrations and family activities are around food- and I just love good food- I know you can eat after the surgery, but have to watch what you eat and the amount- Do you miss it?

Do I miss it? Every day. The surgery was on my stomach and intestines....not my brain!:ursofunny

One still has to develop good habits or I can eat small amounts of bad food all day and defeat the purpose. What I miss the most is In-an-Out!!!!!!!!!

It's nice to know I'm not alone, expect I'm hot all the time now, thanks to menopause. I kid you not it can be 20 out snow on the ground and I'm hot, most the time in the winter months I'll go outside and stand, it feels good. I freeze my poor family out in the winter months. Just thinking about summer makes me feel hot, just the thought of wearing long sleeves make me feel hot! When I was younger I see these elderly women running around in the winter in short sleeves no jackets and think they are crazy, well I'm there now one of em, CRAZY!.:aaa

As for diet deal, excised and eating healthy, I don't believes in depriving myself, been able to maintained my weight. if I want cookies I have one, just not the whole box..;) Ok I'll admit brownies are another deal, my weakness, I eat the whole pan, so I don't bake them often:evilglee

But I think it's a personal choice how one decides what right for them, I did read once they were going to try head transplants onto other bodies :aaa

I have that problem too, but because of my shunt, I have the 'black' problem anyway.

I just had a physical for work and the Dr. asked me if I was athletic...LOL!

Yeah, I do cross country and I'm a gynast...why do you ask?

Because my pulse is so low.....haha.

I don't miss eating a lot, but I can eat whatever I want, just can't eat a lot of it.

It's weird though, cause I used to love things like chocolate chip cookies, cheesecake, and a bloody ribeye.

Well, I can still have those things, but strangely, I can eat just one cookie, and I feel like I've had half a dozen. I can have three bites (equal to one of my old bites, as I take smaller bites now), and I feel like I've had a large piece. I have 2 oz of bloody steak and I feel like it's been 12 oz.

So I have satiety when I eat, which is important.

And I don't have that urge to get 'just one more piece' or 'just one more scoop' to have that satisfaction.

When I feel like I'm getting full, I'm done eating. And I don't even want anything else for a while.

The jury is still out on the long term success of lap banding. So far the studies seem to indicate that it is much less superior to the more invasive Roux-en-y procedure.
