My job is ending after 20 years....need prayer!
 

I tend to be a private person by nature and it is hard for me to open up to others....so here goes. Today my Director of the Social Service Agency I have worked at for the last 20 years came in and said my job will be ending October 31st. I desperately need God's direction and a job! I haven't been in the job hunting market for the last 20 years..........so I'm nervous. And by the way this came out of the blue....never would of dreamed this was going to happen. In fact 1 week earlier they had honored me for my 20 year anniversary and almost 1 week to the day later said that due to cutbacks my job was ending. Thanks for your prayers!!

I will be praying for you. I KNOW what prayer can do. I know I got my answer very shortly after bringing it to the forum to pray.

We may not see eye to eye and forum drama gets old but I KNOW beyond a shadow of a doubt that this forum is visited by folks who know how to pray, and they will.

The same thing happened to me just 10 days after my 15th anniversary at my last job. I know how devestating it can be, but God is faithful. I am making more money now than I was after 15 years on the job that I cried about losing three years ago.

God is no respecter of persons. I believe He will do the same for you and I am praying for you - for that perfect job, but also for peace about it!

Your not alone in this dear sister. I think most of us are all one step away from being laid off at our jobs due to the current issues some industries are having. Never the less, God will supply all of your needs according to his riches in glory. I will be in prayer for you (as welll as others) who are in the same boat.

:hug3 Hugs to all you who have posted and are praying and even those who didn't post but I know are praying! I told my husband my "AFF Family" is praying for me and when they pray things happen!!! Yesterday was probably the hardest day for me.....I woke up with a migraine that it seemed like no amount of meds would take away...I'm sure it was from the stress of the day before when I found out about my job and everything. Today I'm back at work and packing up my office.... I still have about a month and a half but I have to take down all the familiar little touches I had up so I can start the transition....sound's weird but makes sense to me. So I will be working in a bare office....just the necessary stuff.

Girl I am praying for you! God does indeed have something better in store for you! He loves you and will NEVER let you down! Our timing may not be his sometimes it definitely is NOT but He knows exactly when he is doing it and why... Love ya and praying!

Sister, if you spent 20 years at one job, as a business owner myself, that longevity speaks volumes especially today when people change jobs like they change underwear.

If you haven't already, sit down and begin listing ALL the skills you learned, things you trained for, and as many tasks and projects that you worked on, lead, managed, as well as any people you may have supervised, directed, lead, even if they were interns, etc.

Don't be afraid to use the following terms..

project manager
project lead
involvement in and/or implementation of process change
created efficiencies
involvement in organizational growth and planning
lead the initative to...
created a strategic/creative approach to...
conflict management (at any level)
client services

All this is part of the information that will populate your brand spanking new resume.

Put your career, not just your next job into the hands of the Lord and not only will you find the right job, it will be in the right industry.

One suggestion as I had a need to look for a new job a couple of years ago.

Interview at companies or organizations that are not your first choice.

Get in the practice of interviewing where it will not hurt you.

Then once you feel up to the interview process that has changed in 20 years.

Hit the ageny's and organizations you really would love to work for...

Try to go as high as you can.

You are now a free agent.

Why not try.
