Goths
Hi everyone, what do you know of goths and/or think of them and the way they dress and their music? I'd like your opinions (I'm evaluating) lol

Re: Goths
The only goths I've seen are teens just trying out some independence. LOL!
They don't look like happy people. More like doom and gloom. And what exactly is that kind of look supposed to represent? What message should it send to others? I'm interested in other responses to your post. |

Why are they posuers because they do not grasp or even acknowledge goth or goth's music (ie The Cure, Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees, for old-school goth and foundational goth sound etc) and go around thinking Marylin Manson is a goth singer......he isn't, far from it. Your next question, what should the look "represent" It should represent: "I'm a little devil worshipper and I hate God!" No not really lol, sorry I just thought that was funny lol, Well originally back in the late 70's black was worn by goths to be dramatic (it still is used that way) and to be the anti-color the colorful 70's and disco etc. and it was also inspired by the theatrical, and black and white old horror movies (due note, goths like gothic horror (novels) and old horror moves, but not today's slasher flicks and "torture porn" movies. They're just sick and wrong, the whole goth subculture gets is namesake from the gothic romance and horror novels of the 1900's. (Poe, Shelly, Stoker etc). One more thing of note is that goths dress in black to mourn for society's ills, ways, and wickedness, they recognize (myself included) that our world is not a nice place and its a very wicked and depraved place. They're naturally introspective and ponder the human condition etc. Goths do not obsess or glorify evil, and we do not obsess over death. We recognize that all life and things die, the only question is when? What we do is we realize death is apart of life and we then move on from that, but in noway are goths obsessed over it. (We even self-parody the goth subculture in being sometimes purposely overly dramatic and woeful, all in jest and fun though). Goth humor itself is a mix of irony, satire, dark humor and self-parody and deadpan humor, we like to laugh at ourselves (sometimes for being overly serious at times lol). |
Re: Goths
Personally, I have witnessed that they are very loyal to each other.
Loyalty is one of the best traits you can find in a person. Too often, its one of the rarest. |

Right partially right. Although obviously not enough to know the correct spelling of her name. :)
So is the doctors name spelled "Ducky" or "Duckie"? |

Why I am asking this question? Because it seems like you are letting us know your beliefs to either make us aware of them, or making an attempt to win converts? I'm not saying the latter is what you are attempting here, but my question is why the thread? Are you saying that Goth is a religion? A religion that believes in mourning for society's ills, ways, and wickedness? Since you recognize that all life and things die, and realize death is apart of life, what is your view of an after life? The Rastafarians consider themselves a religion, they as Goths have a look, style, language, and music. Many people copy the look of the Rasta, with the wearing of the dreads, and the colors of the Ethiopian flag, but they do not adhere to the ways of the Rastafari So, are you saying, that Goth is a religion? Re: Goths
Goths seem to portray mourning and gloom and things of the "dark" -- the negative. I think we ought to be concerned to portray the love and joy of God as Christians, and not these things. Rather than mourn the state of things, we need to change it.

The Man in Black
Well you wonder why I always dress in black Why you never see bright colors on my back And why does my appearance seem to have a somber tone Well, there’s a reason for the things that I have on I wear the black for the poor and the beaten down Livin’ in the hopeless, hungry side of town I wear it for the prisoner who is long pad for his crime But is there because he’s a victim of the times I wear the black for those who’ve never read Or listened to the words that Jesus said About the road to happiness through love and charity Why, you’d think He’s talking straight to you and me Well, we’re doin’ mighty fine, I do suppose In our streak of lightnin’ cars and fancy clothes But just so we’re reminded of the ones who are held back Up front there ought to be a Man In Black I wear it for the sick and lonely old For the reckless ones whose bad trip left them cold I wear the black in mournin’ for the lives that could have been Each week we lose a hundred fine young men And I wear it for the thousands who have died Believin’ that the Lord was on their side I wear it for another hundred thousand who have died Believin’ that we all were on their side Well, there’s things that never will be right I know And things need changin’ everywhere you go But ‘til we start to make a move to make a few things right You’ll never see me wear a suit of white Ah, I’d love to wear a rainbow every day And tell the world that everything’s okay But I’ll try to carry off a little darkness on my back Till things are brighter, I’m the Man in Black copyrighted by Song of Cash Inc |

Subcultures take on the aspect of religion, and therefore you can say that a subculture has its own music, language, attire, and behavior. You said yourself that a "Mall Goth" is not an actual Goth. Therefore you just showed us that within your Goth experience that you have separated yourself from those Goths who fit not the pattern that you and your group prescribe. You called the "Mall Goths" posers, therefore if they are posers then they are hypocrites, a.k.a "poser." I asked "Since you recognize that all life and things die, and realize death is apart of life, what is your view of an after life?" Do you believe in speaking in tonngues and the Spirit gives the utterance? Do you believe in the water baptism in Jesus name? Do you paint your fingernails black? Re: Goths
There is a couple here, @ NLC, who go to Goth concerts and witness to the attenders. They don't go inside, but they do actively talk to passersby. Here is a pic of them after they spoke to our youth. They love the Lord with all their heart and I would love to have 20 more just like them. You would not believe this guy's story of mental abuse as a school boy. It is a miracle that he is alive. We love he and his wife, Ruthy unconditionally and love the acceptance they receive from the folks @ NLC. I really do love these people. They have received the "cold shoulder" from more than one church for being different. They actually asked "permission" to attend and wondered if it would be all right if Goths got saved to bring them to church! So sad, they even had to ask. I told them, "God forbid that someone would come to church seeking Jesus that looks weird!" :

I am curious, does "Goth" refer to the Gothic architectural period of the late middle ages, or to the Goths of 3rd and 4th century Germanic Tribes?

Genesis 24:21-22 Without saying a word, the man watched her closely to learn whether or not the Lord had made his journey successful. When the camels had finished drinking, the man took out a gold nose ring weighing a beka and two gold bracelets weighing ten shekels. Ezekiel 16:9-14 I bathed you with water and washed the blood from you and put ointments on you. I clothed you with an embroidered dress and put leather sandals on you. I dressed you in fine linen and covered you with costly garments. I adorned you with jewelry: I put bracelets on your arms and a necklace around your neck, and I put a ring on your nose, earrings on your ears and a beautiful crown on your head. So you were adorned with gold and silver; your clothes were of fine linen and costly fabric and embroidered cloth. Your food was fine flour, honey and olive oil. You became very beautiful and rose to be a queen. And your fame spread among the nations on account of your beauty, because the splendor I had given you made your beauty perfect, declares the Sovereign LORD. The word , “pierce,” is in fact from a Hebrew word that means, “slash,” or “cut.” The nations around Israel and in the Promised Land where God was sending them had a funeral rite that involved using stones or knives to cut their flesh until it bled. That is what God commanded them not to do. Leviticus 19:28 has nothing to do with jewelry. “Do not cut your bodies for the dead…” The law is against cutting oneself as a means of showing grief or for funeral rites, see also Deuteronomy 14:1; Jeremiah 16:6, 48:37; and Mark 5:5. |

Some individuals said sinner prayers and then I was drinking with them that same night. I saw people I knew on their knees shedding tears, and reciting the sinner's prayer, but later that night they would be sharing a beer with me. Unchanged, and unmotivated to do anything with their new found religion. I really began to think that those dudes were doing it more for themselves then doing it for us. They would tell me that Jesus would of been an outlaw if He was walking the earth today. I thought that was smoked, Jesus would of been an outlaw, and selling dope, extorting money from dancers? I started to consider these Bikers for Jesus, a little far removed from the Christ they claimed to represent. Some of those men who shared Jesus were sincere and saw through the other guys who wanted to notch their Bibles by getting their pictures with Bikers who had their heads bowed in prayer. Quote:

Hey do you still take tithes and offerings from your people who come to your church? Funny how there are those who blow off standards, but they never 86 tithes and offerings. Unless they are not a preacher, or should I say the "main" preacher. Quote:

Abram came out from among them to be separate, and then was named Abraham. I understand the practice of using stones and knives in mourning, but the practice of tattooing was used in the ancient times to identify with one's tribe, position in the tribe or culture, and to worship their devils. Jewelry was primarily used to worship gods, or ward off unclean spirits. In Jesus name Brother Benincasa www.OnTimeJournal.com |

I would love to have 20 more just like this guy and the OB/GYN who attends as well, whom we just recently baptized. He looks and dresses like a Dr. NLC is very diverse! I do not preach that a person is saved IN their sin. I preach they are saved FROM their sin. The Christian bikers I know don't cuss, drink, smoke or carouse around. Sorry you had bad examples. :D |
