I'm not going to give an exact amount, but we didn't use credit for anything--everything was carefully budgeted way in advance, and I only went over a teensy bit. (Jeff's fault!!!!) Soooo...I'd say we feel pretty good about it. :)

We don't feel pressured to fulfill our kids' every wish. We buy what we can, stuff stockings, and call it a day.

I kept it under $1000. I shopped sales and spread the spending out over several months.

Nothing on credit this year - Thankfully. Though I posted "Over One Thousand" I should clarify it generally includes an essential large purchase for myself and my wife. Last year an espresso machine, and this year a shuffleboard and a foosball table. :)

We just spend what we have--we look at the budget around September, and figure how much we can allocate, and then I work with that to figure out what the kids are going to get. I always set aside a small amount each to cover stockings and small items I just happen to find, and then a couple of bigger gifts each.

My Mom also uses my list to figure out what she's going to buy, so that works out well for the kids. We bought Sarah a Nintendo DS, for instance, so mother bought her a DS game.

Another thing we did this year which I really like--we suspended the kids' allowance in October, and held it until Christmas, so they had about 11 weeks worth of allowance. Now they have a little bundle of spending money. (And we're not out anymore than we would have been already.)

LOL!!! Trust me, Stephen, I do look my age. Good lighting does wonders. :D In fact, in the last year or so, I've developed dark circles under my eyes, and it doesn't matter how much rest I get--they DON'T go away. This will be a shock to the AFF, but I've resorted to using under eye concealer. :oops

In fact, one Sunday morning at music practice, the drummer looked over at me, sitting on the organ, and commented, "Looks like someone forgot their under eye concealer today." :( :tissue

If he only KNEW!!!!! :tissue (How on earth he even knew about concealer in the first place is another topic for discussion.)

I am taking some new vitamins. *sigh* Maybe they'll help.

There are really 2 Christmas happening these days,

The spiritual reality and truth about God coming as Incarnate Man to save humanity.

And the cultural tradional gathering built around food, family and gift giving.

Frankly I like both, and I celebrate both to the max. The first every day of the year, the second, thankfully a short season.
