I have just not warmed up to the Mac OS and cannot stand Apple as a company. I refuse to pay the "Apple Premium" they charge. Granted, MS isn't too cheap either, but there software is so much more open to developers.

After being a "Microsoft" man & beta tester for years, all I can say now is that my Mac just works! Slight learning curve but with VMWare Fusion, I can run any PC program I can't get for Mac or don't want to shell out the $$ for on my Mac. I run Windows in a window on my Mac when I need to flawlessly without the blue screen of death. Mac is certainly superior for publishing, video editing and for speed IMO.

You know what they say, "Once you go "Mac" you don't look back!" :D I haven't for almost a year.

I do graphics, multimedia, 3D, audio, etc for my job. I used to be exclusively Mac. Now - I prefer a PC. The whole "Mac-is-better-for..." argument is silly to me. It's all about software (same) and system stability (they both crash, trust me). A well maintained computer works well no matter the OS.

Only exception? Final Cut Pro is the best video editor, and it's Mac only - I do concede that point. But Premiere Pro has gotten pretty good.

Um.....in a word.....YES!!!

I use Final Cut and it works extremely well. Premiere is a great program, but has a much higher learning curve than Final Cut.

I used to have a Dell Inspiron 9400 that was big and heavy, maxed out w/RAM, fast HD, Heavy Duty video card and doing all the things I do, would still have constant problems with drivers compatibility etc, and crashes. I would defrag frequently and still had the same problems. Haven't had that problem since buying my MacBook Pro. It is small, light and connects to the internet lightning fast. From the time I press the Start button until I am actually checking my email is within 1 minute. NEVER, EVER had anything work that quickly on a PC. I agree that software is a major part of it, but driver issues under Windows are a plague. At least that has been my experience. Not everyone will have the same as me, but that's mine and I ain't goin' back! I can honestly say it just works. :D

I was wondering if someone was going to bring this up! This is actually pretty funny.

Actually, for what I do, Windows is pretty darn good. Most of the software I use is either free or shareware. And, yes, I pay for my shareware, because I appreciate that someone took the time to make good software!

I admit that I got lucky on Office 2007, due to an employee special at work I got it from Microsoft for less than $25. However, I also think that Office 2007's workflow (a ribbon, rather than menus, are you kidding?) stinks and am not looking forward to the day when it's installed on my work box.

I will admit that I saw a Mac Air notebook a few weeks ago and it was simply the most beautiful laptop I'd ever seen. However, the entry price ($1800 for a bare-bones version) was steep, and there are a lot of programs I'd simply have to buy all over again in Mac versions.

I'll stick to my Windoze boxes, at least for the time being. I'm rather hoping that the forthcoming Windows 7 isn't a memory-hogging dud like Vista, or I'm going to be on XP forever, or moving over to some flavor of Linux.

I've only had ONE blue screen in the past several years and it just happened to take place in the last week. I tried running a low-level hardware utility (32 bit version) on our new machine running Vista 64 bit. It crashed fast and hard, but I also KNEW it would do this.

Oh yes, and driver issues will always be present on the Windows platform for the simple reason that windows has to account for a whole universe of different motherboards and devices -as well as attempting compatibility with every thing going almost back to DOS. MAC only has to work on one of a couple of machines and even then when a new major Mac OS comes, Apple simply forgoes compatibility.

You can run your Windoze progs on a Mac! I do it with progs I either don't want to shell out the $$$ for or there isn't a Mac version for. I run VMWare Fusion and it runs XP in a window on my Mac that is like having two separate computers in one! The best of both worlds. That is what pushed me over the edge when I bought my MacBook Pro.

Haven't gone withe "Air" simply because the MacBook Pro is a beefier machine and I need the "beef" for what I do. Have almost pulled the trigger on the new MacBook Pro though, but I would have to get some good $$ out of my current one first. When I compared what the cost of a similarly decked out PC laptop would be with my MacBook Pro, the price was very close with the MacBook Pro only being maybe $300 more. You can get a student discount if you know someone who is a student. My oldest is in college so it's at least 10% off list if not more. :D

I just checked and I can get the decked out fastest, 2.8GHz MacBook Pro 15" with AppleCare for $2882.00. That's top of the line, and I don't think that's too bad for what you get. Dell is $2773 similarly decked out!

There are even better video editors I think but they are very very much more expensive..

The problem with windows is when there is a driver issue plus third party software. But Windows has always shipped with HUGE holes and bugs. They ship their product KNOWING that...this video is just priceless.

But as far as hardware goes I bet I can build a machine as fast or faster than a mac for less. It's all based on the same Intel chip design now...no more motorolas.

So then the only thing remaining is the software as you said.

I can't stand the new Office layout..

I have xp pro on this PC...I just built it and bought XP for it...no way was I going to pay extra for Vista

They say you need at least 1 gig for XP and 2 for Vista

Oh...another "windows" thing...

That "Compatability Wizard" NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER worked for me. I tried older programs and that stupid wizard never made a difference...I think it was just a fake app to make people think "wow..I can get this and still use my older 98 programs"


Then Vista comes out with this "This program is no longer working, would you like windows to find a solution?".....nothing happens.

And I with Vista I have programs just die and NOT close. I thought with a new OS and all they would have made a way finally for when a program crashes to neatly and quickly just close it.

Using the new Vista Home Premium 64 bit version, I still have the look set toward "Windows Classic" which makes it appear for the most part like Windows 95/98.

The first thing I do with ANY OS is to turn off as many animations and the "fade in/fade out" junk as soon as possible. About the only thing I leave on is the "Show window contents while dragging".

There's a PC video game I like to play (uh, that'd be Alpha Centauri) which came out 10 years ago. Of course the compatibility wizard doesn't work for it. But I discovered the fanbois had already figured out what settings needed to be changed in the game .ini files and in the parameters fed to Windows to start it, and voila! The only message I get is at the beginning of the game: "Your CPU is not supported. Do you want to continue?" I press <Enter> and play for hours.

That's the other reason I don't want to upgrade. I don't know what I'd do without being able to go to my Alpha Centauri to work out some of my frustrations. :)

I believe WinXP never really shipped with a solution for running older software...no emulator, no real difference at all. It was just put there to try to sell the OS
