Oh I Want To See Him is the worst song of any genre.
Most depressing song in the world.

A close second is the One-God-Tongue-Talking-Apostolic song. A person has to be able to speak in tongues in order to sing that song.

This hits nearly every bad sterotype about us. Its a total "all about us" song that does little to nothing to glorify God.

Re: Worst Song In the History of Christianity

As I journey through the land, singing as I go,
Pointing souls to Calvary—to the crimson flow,
Many arrows pierce my soul from without, within;
But my Lord leads me on, through Him I must win.
Refrain:
Oh, I want to see Him, look upon His face,
There to sing forever of His saving grace;
On the streets of glory let me lift my voice,
Cares all past, home at last, ever to rejoice.

When in service for my Lord dark may be the night,
But As I journey through the land, singing as I go,
Pointing souls to Calvary—to the crimson flow,
Many arrows pierce my soul from without, within;
But my Lord leads me on, through Him I must win.

Refrain:
Oh, I want to see Him, look upon His face,
There to sing forever of His saving grace;
On the streets of glory let me lift my voice,
Cares all past, home at last, ever to rejoice.

When in service for my Lord dark may be the night,
But I’ll cling more close to Him, He will give me light;
Satan’s snares may vex my soul, turn my thoughts aside;
But my Lord goes ahead, leads whate’er betide.
When in valleys low I look toward the mountain height,
And behold my Savior there, leading in the fight,
With a tender hand outstretched toward the valley low,
Guiding me, I can see, as I onward go.
When before me billows rise from the mighty deep,
Then my Lord directs my bark; He doth safely keep,
And He leads me gently on through this world below;
He’s a real Friend to me, oh, I love Him so.

I don't see this as a depressing song in the least. What is depressing about acknowledging that life brings us trouble sometimes, but God is a friend and brings us comfort in those times? What is depressing about loving a friend and wanting to see that friend very badly?

There is no "Perhaps" about it!! I am NOT on the same page!!! I have never and WILL never walk into a church and proclaim that "Nobody was praisin' the Lord, nobody but me." How could anyone EVER say such a thing????

Re: Worst Song In the History of Christianity

The chourus has nothing to do with the verses.
The writer mangles the lyrics just to get them to rhyme.
Reading the lyrics are worse than singing them.
It's a cheesy song.
It's #1 on Jack Kevorkian's playlist.

Boy, I'm not catchin' your drift on this one. Granted, there are MANY depressing hymns, but "Oh I want To See Him" isn't one of them. Not to me, anyway.

These songs are all about pumping up the crowd.

Great for emotionalism when you have nothing else to offer, and mindless lemmings to follow along.

Everyboday say, "Hey" say "Ho" now Scream!!!

Well I never testified at school. People would say that I'm not coo-hool. But one day I had enough of that evolution stuff and I stood up and I said, "God's Word is true."

Well the teacher did not know what to do. It seems like he was shakin' in his shoo-hoos. Though I knew he meant no harm, he took me by the arm, and he said, "Son, what religion are you?"

I actually had to sing that as a solo one time. I still have nightmares.

The next time someone says, "I can't hear you", I'm gonna go grab the microphone and say, "Yes you can, you liar, and all liars shall have their place in the lake of fire which burneth with brimstone."

I'll tell you what, Baron, nobody was praisin' the Lord, nobody but me!!! I just love myself. :lol

Re: Worst Song In the History of Christianity

The worst song ever is "If God Should Choose".

"If God should choose, I could lose everything in a moment's time. All I have belongs to him, anyway."

SERIOUSLY???????

Sung in this sad, depressed voice.

I HATE THAT SONG!!

As if God is sitting up in heaven going - "Nah, nah, nah-nah-nah!!!"

Of course we all know that God owns everything, and that we owe everything to him, but seriously! Most depressing, non-edifying song on the planet!!

If you've never heard of it, consider yourself blessed.

Re: Worst Song In the History of Christianity

So maybe a poll will be good for this. We'll take nominations and then offer seven songs in a poll. I think that's the limit for a poll.

So...so far we have three nominations:

1) I'm Just Warmin' Up.
2) I'm A Pentecostal
3) I'm a One God............

Sorry, but as the author of this thread, I decide what's nominated and what's not. If you've been nice to me in the past, it'll help you a lot!!:lol

ps....it has to be relatively well-known. (by me):lol

I like 'I'm a one-God Apostolic'! As a kid's song. One that we'd have fun sitting around singing faster and faster and faster!!! Until we collapsed in a pile laughing at how tangled our tongues were getting.

As a song to sing in church, that'd be weird.

One time in college chapel, one of the students, who's turn it was to lead songs that day, led "Father Abraham." We all thought it was funny. The faculty didn't see the humor.

This isn't about the McGruders. It's about the song. And the song is brutal. It's a cheap, surfacy, "I'm-better-than-you-because-I'm-loud", self-righteous, worthless piece of "music". I don't know who wrote the song and I don't care.

"I went to visit a church, it was quiet as it could be"
•What's wrong with that? Some of my greatest spiritual encounters have been in the silence of hearing the still, small voice of God.

"Nobody was praising the Lord"
•How the heck do you know??? Praise is something that happens for God Almighty, not so someone can watch and issue their approval!! Praise is in the silence as well! Praise happens when I treat the waitress well, when I'm considerate in traffic, when I'm cordial to the neighbor.

"Nobody but me"
•Well flippin' bully for you. Is this all about YOU?? You're better than everyone else? What a joke.

"But when I come to church I don't just come to take up space."
•And everyone else does? Wow, you really are impressed with yourself, aren't you? I'm thankful for every person who attends our church who "takes up space". It's an opportunity for them to have an encounter with God.

My most dis-liked song ?? .......

We are Able to Go Up and Take the country. To possess the land from Jordan to the Sea - Though the giants may be there our way to hinder, God will surely give the victory...

Now....... Regarding the I'm a Pentecostal song..... It certainly isn't my favorite, but I don't understand all of you that dislike it so much. I know for a fact that it sold may copies (single and full album) - a much requested song. My greatest problem with it is the line.... "we've cranked up the music" :pullhair That is my problem with most churches! :girlytantrum

Stop and think about it: There are Vertical songs (those sang TO the Lord and glorifying Him) Then there are Horizontal songs - (those that are to explain or tell a story to others) - This happens to be a horizontal song that very much explains us ...

As I remember, you are from CLC so I figured you would defend this tragic piece of lyrical demagoguery. You said you don't like the line, "We've cranked up the music." But Sweet Pea, that's the entirety of the problem, here. It's "We this", "We that", "I do this", "I do that", "Me, me, me, me, me, me, me." "Please everyone notice me". Ugh.

It sold a lot of albums? I'm sure Than is happy about that. Requested? Whoopty-doo. It's a song that helps pentecostals deal with their insecurities by bragging about how good they think they are.
