PO - I'm Converted Now

I've been reading Jorge Cruise's book - The 100 and I'm convinced that sugar is a toxin.

I'm a carboholic, so it has been very hard for me to accept the fact that sugar is bad, bad, bad for me. However, after reading this, I'm convinced that I have to get sugar out of my life.

I know that you've lead they way and said for years that it's a toxin in our system and I chose to ignore it. I mean all those gorgeous desserts we make are satisfying to the eye and palate, but they are killing us!

I hope to continue learning and make some serious life changes. It's so interesting to read and understand the history behind refined flour/sugar and how it was introduced into our lives and changed us for the bad.

Lol -- I'm a long way from that, but I am enjoying my fruits and veggies. Problem is many fruits have sugar in them too, so you have to control that too.

Just my only sugar intake (and it is big) are the 2-3 cans of coke I have a day, other then that I am NOT a big "sweets" eater. When we go out (or even eat at home) my attitude has always been that if I am still hungry enough to eat dessert, it means I haven't had enough of my main entree.

I'll take a merely good filet mignon over the worlds best pie or cake any day. :)

When I go out to eat while trying to decide what to order, I'm eating the bread and checking out what they have for dessert.

Re: PO - I'm Converted Now

seriously my suger intake is very small.

I drink about 3 cups of coffee a day, each has less than a teaspoon of suger.

I have had peach cobler and bread pudding this week but before that it has been more than a month since i have had ANY desert of any kind.

I may drink a regular coke once in two to three weeks. Sugar is not my issue. Eating too much other stuff however...

Dude, you dont know what you are missing. what I had yesterday was good but not GREAT.

now the BP I make is crazy good. I start with some high quality breakfast bread like you get from Panera Bread company or from Central Market, then make it with a custard that is very close to cream brule....

Not only the steak, but also the asparagus that is usually included as a side. Up until a year or two ago I never liked it, but something happened almost overnight and I love it now!

Renda, did that book say anything about grilling veggies, or grilling in general?

rgcraig 07-02-2013 12:50 PM

Re: PO - I'm Converted Now

Desserts aren't the only problem with sugar - - sugar or some form of it has been added to almost EVERYTHING!

In this book, you are only supposed to have 100 sugar calories a day. An apple has 99 sugar calories. A banana has 108 sugar calories.

If you look at the label to any food product and check out the carb count and multiply it by four (4) that's how many sugar calories it has.

Still reading it.

Grilling veggies is good as long as you use olive oil. I've been getting fresh green beans, dashing a bit of olive oil on them and season them - - wrap them up in foil and grill - - yummmy!

We've always used olive oil ourselves, and do for almost everything. Of course we also add some salt, pepper, Cajun seasoning, garlic, a few habanero peppers. . . . .

Seasoning is fine -- I do however try to not use salt.

High Fructose Corn syrup is in just about everything!

Have you checked into the harm of diet soft drinks as well?

Yes, I gave up my diet Dr. Pepper about six months ago. It was one of the easier things. Drinking water and green tea mostly.

Right, and even though I use organic sugar, sugar is still sugar.

My husband made some jalapeno jelly the other day. Four 16 oz jars used 3 LBS OF SUGAR! The only reason he paid attention to that is because I held up the organic container, as he doesn't like spending the money, and said - this is how much sugar you put in those jars. He's been eating it every day. Gonna die young and make a pretty corpse. :heeheehee

Of course, all the paint related chemicals I get into, I could beat him to the punch - organic food or not. :heeheehee

We all have some vice, mine is caffeine. If I am not drinking coffee, I am drinking a cup of English Breakfast. Still only 3 cups a day, but 3 cups is too much for my body. I like the high I get. Just sayin'.... :heeheehee

Accountability.... Hmmmm...that never means anything for me. I'm going to do whatever I am going to do, even if it hair lips the devil. :heeheehee

I also found, for me, any decision I make is like fasting. If I talk about it, I won't do it. If I keep it too myself, I keep on the mark. And that is the same as taking a break from AFF. If I say I am going to take a break openly, I usually don't. If I don't say anything and just take the break, I actually take it. But, that's just me. Don't know what that means about my personality. lol

Good for you!!!! I very rarely drink a soft drink, but when I did, I noticed that the diet drink would make me profusely hungry an hour or two later.

I was putting together a wedding shower Saturday before last and didn't have time to get something to drink. They didn't have filtered water in the facility and so I grabbed a Coke! I was sick for four days. Man, it sure tastes good when you haven't had one in a long while, but the after effects are horrible.

Try some tequila! It must have something going for it if it is in every single receipt that PO posts here! I keep telling her that it is ALSO very good to drink, or make mixed drinks with, not just cooking.

Your losing your immunity. Someday, just like the Indians here several hundred years ago, someone will come to your house with a cold -and it'll kill you.

I can PROVE I do not drink or use Tequila - my husband is still alive! I don't care how much of the Holy Ghost you have, Tequila will not stop one nefarious act. :heeheehee

Sobering fact - if cancer cells in a petri dish are fed glucose they thrive. When stopped, they die.

Myths

Those that oppose drinking distilled water claim that since it does not have added fluoride, iron, calcium, magnesium or other minerals, you are depriving your body of vital nutrients. Certified Water Specialist Joe Letorney refutes these claims, explaining that to receive your daily value of calcium, magnesium or iron, you need to drink between 646 and 848 glasses of water per day. These vitamins and minerals should be obtained through diet. Another unproven claim is that distilled water leaches essential nutrients from your body, causing more harm than health.

Okay, I will try that and see what I think. If I use a sweetener, I always use Raw Honey. And, yes, calorically, it is the same as table sugar, but has Vitamins C, B6, B3, B12, B1, B5. You can have 1 Tbsp per day. One tsp. is plenty in a cup of tea.
