Can You Count The Passes?

Follow this link to see a video where you try to count how many basketball passes are made:

Can You Count the Passes?

After you watch it you'll see through an ultra-con's eyes. You'll understand after you watch it! :)

LOLOLOLOL

I got it!

New term for the UC...."in intentional blindness"

I Love It!

MissBrattified 09-26-2007 02:22 PM

That's funny! :D

NightOwl 09-26-2007 02:28 PM

lol

I did not even see that

StillStanding 09-26-2007 02:32 PM

When you focus too hard on certain things, you can miss things that are obvious to everyone else! :)

I totals missed it myself too! :D

HeavenlyOne 09-26-2007 03:11 PM

That is too funny. I also didn't see the gorilla until taking in all the action, and I was like, what in the world? LOL!

StillStanding 09-26-2007 04:50 PM

*bump*

tbpew 09-26-2007 05:13 PM

I am not sure how your conclusion extends to the UC but IMO, it was a worthwhile and important demonstration using OUR OWN eyes!

thanks for the provocation to good works.

What I'm saying is that by focusing on certain details, one can miss the big picture! I'm just trying to yank the ultra-cons chain by mentioning them! :D

becareful, they rule.

Sheltiedad 09-26-2007 05:31 PM

I was focusing on the task at hand, so the gorilla was irrelevant. There could have been a fire-breathing dragon and it still wouldn't have changed the task I was asked to complete... but that was a cool trick, I didn't see the gorilla until the second time.

What made the task at hand the most important one?

Sheltiedad 09-26-2007 05:37 PM

It was the specific task I was given to complete... if I was asked to manage the entire thing I would have paid more attention to my surroundings. I wasn't asked to look at the big picture so I didn't. If I am on a project that has 15 different sub-projects and I am in charge of one sub-project, then I only care about the other sub-projects if they affect my sub-project... if I were to get too focused on the whole project, I would not do a very good job managing my sub-project.

On this forum, sometimes I feel like I am the gorilla walking around that nobody sees. :D

the only inescapable lesson is that in doing so, you will probably overlook the threat posed by an intruder in your midst.:ernie

I didn't see the gorilla till they explained it...which means I watched it TWICE without ever seeing him! Buwahahaha!!! :killinme

I was very intensely watching the ball...nothing else was important! I was given a task, and that's all I needed to be concerned with! :thumbsup

So THERE!!! :razz

What made it the most important? Because it was the only task the announcer gave to everyone watching the video.

The reason most of you all fail to notice the chimp suit is because you were focusing on only white shirts and intentionally blocking out all others. The chimp suite was wearing black too like the other players

Praxeas 09-27-2007 12:20 AM

The reason I actually noticed the chimpsuit is because he was in the middle not moving. I could see the black team moving around but I was not watching their passes. I noticed the chimpsuit the first time around because he was in the center not moving around like the others

I don't know about the "normal people" part! :D

Myself, I get really focused at the task at hand. Sometimes I get too focused!! In fact, I have the ability to block out other activities going on around me.

Maybe that's why I was a sucker for this experiment! :D

A majority of folks will miss the gorilla. Maybe it depends on one's ability to have a singular focus! :)
