Sen. Ted Cruz Makes It Official

Cruz is running for President in 2016.

He made the announcement at Jerry Falwell's Liberty University.

Quote:

"I believe God isn't done with America," Cruz said to a raucous standing ovation. "I believe in you. I believe in the power of millions of courageous conservatives rising up to reignite the promise of America. And that's why today I am announcing that I am running for president of the United States."

Funny, "Liberty" University doesn't allow its students true liberty. Many didn't want to go to the rally, but were forced to go or pay a fine for not attending. Several decided to protest by wearing red "I Stand With Rand" t-shirts.

Too bad Cruz chose to kick off his campaign there instead of in Texas. I understand the idea of wanting to get the Evangelical vote, he could've done that without going to Falwell country.

Ted Cruz chose this location and DAY for a specific purpose. Five years ago TODAY, O signed Obamacare into law and Liberty University filed a lawsuit to stop it.

.

For being mandatory, Cruz received large applause, and a standing ovation even by the Rand supporters. He also didn't use a teleprompter for the 40 minute speech.

And BTW, for the naysayers on the executive experience, Ted Cruz articulately addresses that here:

But doesn't that pigeonhole him into being a single-issue candidate?

I follow him on Twitter and it does seem that the repeal of obamacare is his primary theme. I'm just not sure that will translate well with voters. I'd like to be wrong, though. I think Cruz would make a great President or Vice President.

I'm still hoping for Rand Paul, but Cruz would be my second choice.

No, it doesn't make him a single issue candidate. The Supreme Court hasn't made a decision on King v. Burwell.

Ted Cruz does not have my support and probably never will. I'd rather vote for Rand Paul. I think a Jeb Bush/Rand Paul ticket is at least palatable.

For all these years of complaining about Obama, the GOP doesn't really have any stand out superstars. Kind of disappointing.

At least Hillary was born in America...... :heeheehee

I still think Cruz is posturing vor VP. His decision to announce in Virginia shows his forsight in re-converting Virginia to the right side of the road again.

Watched the speech a couple times last night.

At first I was a bit disappointed with the speech, but then had to remind myself this was only an introductory speech to tell everyone he was running for President. As such, it was a great introduction and well-crafted speech.

I loved the mention of a flat tax (though I am pessimistic it would ever happen); I loved school choice being framed as the civil rights issue of this generation and loved the blast against Common Core.

I look forward to hearing more details of his political beliefs and policies as we get further into the campaign.
