Latest UPC Growth Numbers (Declining)

Number of Churches and Daughter Works in North America

2006 = 4380

2008 = 4358

Does anyone have numbers from further back?

The fact that they have 22 less churches doesn't neccessarily mean the total membership has declined over that 2 year period.

What we'd need to see is their total membership numbers, not the number of churches.

Why are you laughing at that goal?

Why don't you check out the AMF's growth rate since they split from the UPC if you want an idea of how ultra conservatives do in this department. I think the AMF brethern that post on here will verify they have not exactly set the world on fire when it comes to growth.

Does the UPC have such membership numbers?

I think these numbers are significant, however.

It seems to show the UPC is stagnating currently.

I agree that we should not laugh at something like that.

At least the UPC is making an effort to reach out.

The most shocking stat on the UPC to me is the age demographic of licensed ministers. The vast majority are over 40 and a significant portion (I forget what percentage) are over 50 and 60.

From upci.org

The United Pentecostal Church International (UPCI) has been among the fastest growing church organizations in North America since it was formed in 1945 by the merger of the Pentecostal Church, Incorporated, and the Pentecostal Assemblies of Jesus Christ. From 617 churches listed in 1946, the UPCI in North America (United States and Canada) today lists 4,358 churches (which includes 4099 autonomous and 258 daughter works), 9,085 ministers, and reports a Sunday School attendance of 646,304. Moreover, it is also located in 175 other nations with 22,881 licensed ministers, 28,351 churches and meeting places, 652 missionaries, and a foreign constituency of over 3 million, making a total worldwide constituency of more than 4,036,945.

I wonder if this holds true for clergy of all denominations in America?

I think God is adding daily to the church, and of His Kingdom there shall be no end.
