Do Outward Standards Protect Inward Holiness?
I recently heard a message by a high profile UPC speaker. If I called his name, all would know him.
He said this; I believe in our standards because they protect our inward holiness. Now my question is this: How can outward fleshly standards of dress protect Christ within us? Can the flesh actually protect holiness? I understand standards may protect our reputation or witness for Christ, but can they actually protect Christ? Did not Jesus say it's not what comes from without that defiles, but what comes from within? Should the flesh even be alive with Christ in us? Does not God's word teach us to mortify the flesh and its deeds? Romans 6? I would appreciate your comments. God bless. |

The outer holiness "look" did not help the Pharisees whom Jesus called whited sepulchres. Looking the part did not protect the Pharisees from becoming hypocrites.

Re: Do Outward Standards Protect Inward Holiness?
He didn't say protect Christ. He said "our" inward holiness. He is meaning ourselves.
We can't answer that question for everyone. Each individual has varying degrees of outward standards/convictions, etc. We have to respect each person's choice of standards/convictions. |

Personally I think standards can help protect us, but is the only protection? No. I have heard many say this, but the one I know that said this is AM. I believe what he says IS what he believes. Like Mizpeh said it did not the Pharisees. I do want to affirm that I do not follow all the dress code things, but I follow Holiness unto the Lord. I have not problems with people that do follow them because they mostlikely have a personal conviction whether be conscience or they feel from God.
