Origin of "Apostolic"

Where does the word "apostolic" come from? When was it first applied to oneness people; those who reject the Trinity doctrine. I know of several churches who refuse to use the word because they say it is of Catholic origin; that the pope has used word for centuries and we have mis-applied it to ourselves.

The word has been used for many years by folks who believe they are a continuation of the followers of the teachings of the original Apostles. You are correct that there are many that we Oneness folks would not consider apostolic that use the term.

I do not like the word apostolic for our church...it is used in a catholic sense a lot here...however my son Raul Jr likes it...
