LapTop Suggestions?

I want to get a laptop for my birthday coming up.

Any suggestions?

Mostly will use it for my research for writing my books.

Also, need to be able to download my sewing programs off my DVR.

My desktop is a Dell.

I just looked at their website.

What is the deal about Vista? Is that a new kind of user system, opposed to DOS?

I've got a Dell laptop, and I like it. In fact, my PC is made by Dell too.

I got mine from Dell.com for small business. That was the only way I could get one with XP on it. At the time, Dell had stopped offering XP through their regular consumer sales division, but they went back to offering XP later, along with VISTA. As of today, VISTA is all you can get on a Dell. Looks like I won't be buying another computer for a good while because I won't use VISTA.

I just got a brand new HP for 450 at fries. It has a huge screen which I really wanted. The HD is only120 gigs but enough for what I use it for and if I want more I will just buy a larger HD.,

Came with 2 gigs ram, enough for most needs but I want more. Video is not so hot but I did not buy this to play games. Audio is as good as any laptop, which is not great

Comes with DVD player/burner. Comes with a card slot and wireless adapter. This does exactly what I bought it for. And the battery life is not bad...not as great as some but then again I have a large screen too.

Comes with Vista Media and has a remote that is pretty cool. I can even shut it down with the remove

Prax-o,
tanks for the doing the legwork and supplying the link.

My son also thanks you for getting his father to get a move off the 'thinking' phase and get down to the 'buying' phase (concerning his portable).
