I have something against caf.........
Caffeine. :stirpot
Caffeine was a major contributer to my previous weight gain. I would daily consume between 3-4 sodas, and luckily I've always abhorred coffee. I'm entering the fourth month of dieting with a resulting loss of 35 pounds, and I've only consumed seven caffeinated beverages within a span of two years. I've discovered great friendship between water and I. To those desiring weight loss.....determination is a must.....and nutri-system :D! I'm craving a fresh donut as I type! |

Hey man, Caffeine doesn't cause most folks to gain weight. It usually has the opposite affect. The soda = weight gain is explained with one word- sugar. Specifically, high fructose corn syrup. That form of sugar, along with the sodium benzoate and all the other chemicals makes soda very unhealthy for most humans. However, you may be the exception. Caffeine could be the culprit for you. Go ahead, eat the fresh baked glazed Krispy Kreme and wash it down with a tall glass of whole milk. They're both void of caffeine. :) |

Re: I have somewhat against caf.........
My son has adverse reactions to caffeine as normal people. It nearly knocks him out. One cup of coffee or a soda when he is tired at all and he is out... He on his own accord stopped drinking drinks with caffeine and his alertness was so amazing compared to what it had been. He had been falling asleep during every class at school and just having a horrible time (all because he would drink a cup of coffee before school because we had no clue why he was always so tired. Due to him no longer sleeping all the time he became much more active and began to get back into shape. It proved to be such a life change for him.
6 months later after adapting to that he then cut out all the sugar out of his diet and lost 32 lbs in 2 months. He has had to put some back in his diet because of his amount of exercise he is doing it was bringing down his blood sugar too low but with him having one candy bar a day or something similar and his extreme work out he is doing wonderful and totally alert now. Caffeine was a bad bad thing for our house |
Re: I have somewhat against caf.........
A few years ago I had been caffeine free for a year or more. Then in 2005 I started having some serious female issues and in the few months it took for my doctor to decide to do surgery, he had me start drinking caffeine again - lots of it. I have never looked back because I do NOT want to go through those withdrawals again. I think kicking it is almost as bad as drugs!

1399 is correct - it's the sugar, carbonationand sodium in soda that causes weight gain and water retention. I'm currently working with a personal trainer, and ironically, we just had this discussion last week. However, there are other side effects to caffeine for me that have caused me to greatly reduce my caffeine intake. |
Re: I have something against caf.........
I'm losing weight and caffeine is my friend. I've lost lost 36.3 pounds in the last five weeks with the help of red bull and coffee.
I haven't really gone on any plan, strict diet, or really increased my exercise at all. I've simply changed my eating habits and cut out most junk food. If I do have a treat or junk food it's just a little bit. |
Re: I have something against caf.........
One of my brothers calls coffee "the big lie" because it smells so good and tastes so bad.
I love it, I embrace, it...I need it. Strong or not at all... |
Re: I have something against caf.........
Caffeine is not altogether a bad thing. It is the abuse of it. I have read studies on how it is the most addictive drug. Not certain if it is, but wiser people that I study it out. Having said that I try to stay away from sodas. I might drink the equivelant of 1 liter a week at most. Often it is only 1 to 2 cans of diet a week. We have switched to Caffeine free at home for my wife. I mainly drink water and juice. My family (wife and in-laws) have kidney stone issues and all that which I don't want. Soda or caffeine alone is not the only cause but it is the main one. Some of the real bad issues in soda for weight gain is in the acids and sugars too. Caffeine is not the only bad thing, but being a diaretic sodas are prone to dehydrate the body and kill nutrients. Say No To Sodas!
