More Goodies to Sister Alvear

Quote:

Sis Alvear,

Yesterday we sent out 2 boxes to you. In one of the boxes (the smaller one) you will find a toy GI Joe Army Jeep. In the other there are clothes, but also a plastic box containing 4 GI Joe Army Men with accessories. These of course are for your grandson with the heart condition. Let him know that we are praying for him, and that we love him.

Again, sorry it has taken so long to get these out. I really want to send a box or 2 every month, and we can get the clothes with no problem. But it is time that we seem to be so short on right now. My job is calming down now, so maybe I can devote some time to getting this "clothing ministry" going.

We love you and Elder Alvear!

Blessing!

Matt and Traci

Just sent this excerpt of a PM to Sis Alvear. We are looking to do the same for Bro Strange as soon as he is set up , ready, and gives me an address to ship to.

Folks, I manage a thrift store who's sole purpose is to fund an org that feeds the homeless here in Knoxville, TN. Over 1000 meals a day are given to the homeless, battered women, and families that are staying at the shelter. This job ignited a desire I have had for many years, To send supplies to missionaries so that they could in turn BLESS their people and community (seed to the sower). It is a joy to send these boxes out knowing that they will be received with joy. If you want to experience it, get a box, and fill it with some good clothes, and ship it to a missionary like the Alvears or Bro Strange. It will cost about $100 to send it. But the joy and excitement you will have outweighs the cost by a long way. If you don't want to do it yourself, contact me via PM, and I will let you know how you can help us.

Yup. I'm getting ready to send a large box of kiddo clothing to the Alvears. Except socks. I can't seem to find socks. At all. What are my children doing with their socks?!?!?

I spoke to a former merchant marine about shipping companies that might give you a reduced rate or ship for charity. He said you should contact shipping brokerage houses at a port near you and talk to them. He also said you might consider talking to the US military and charity shipping organizations.

Thanks Mizpeh. I had gotten your PM on this, but had been so busy that I had not been able to respond. I will be checking some of these avenues out.

We buy socks and underwear new from suppliers at very cheap price.

We give socks and underwear to mens and womens shelters in our area.

Those items are are very scarce at shelters and much needed.

If yiou need the name and info of where we get ours from PM me. I'll contact our compassion ministries director and get the info for you.

He is back in the states right now, as his wife is ill, and he had some damage from the storm he had to look to.

But he was in Honduras doing missionary work, and will likely be going back soon. I think he had a thread here somewhere.
