Fund IRAs Now??
Will the next few day days be a good time to fund IRAs and invest in mutual funds? That was quite the hit wall street took today. Will they continue to plummet until they arrive on a rescue agreement or is this the bottom?

They advised to buy bonds tonight on TV.

Re: Fund IRAs Now??
I think the market will drop further tomorrow and make an excellent buying opportunity.

How about FDIC insured assets? |
Re: Fund IRAs Now??
Now that things have dropped much more since the thread was started... is it time to fund IRAs?

But one thing I can say for sure is this. When you asked this question back on 9/29/2008... sitting here today I can tell you for SURE that that would NOT have been a good time to fund an IRA. :) I am hoping that people will calm down over the weekend and things will chill out. Only time will tell. I pull ALL of my 401k's out of stocks about 6 months ago and I am VERY happy that I did so. If I had any confidence that we were going to recover I would certainly enjoy a windfall by getting back in now... I just can't muster up that confidence at this time. |
Re: Fund IRAs Now??
I think I have decided to fund one next week ($5000) and another the week or two following.

Re: Fund IRAs Now??
I stopped contributing to by 401 K this week. I will wait until January and see where we are. If Obama is prez I will prepare for the RAPTURE.

Re: Fund IRAs Now??
I just asked this question on another thread, yesterday!
If Hoover is willing to invest 5k, I think I can go ahead with 1k. |
Re: Fund IRAs Now??
I was just talking to my friend who is a bank manager yesterday. He commented that Key Bank has gone from $40 a share to $7.00 a share. He owns a bunch of stock in Key because he gets it at a discount as an employee. And he is considering buying a whole bunch more because he feels very sure that things will head up in the next little bit. He also made the comment that if he buys a bunch of stocks at $7.00 today and watches the market closely, waiting for it to go to $10 a share (which is entirely possible in the course of any given day). Sell AT THAT POINT and voila! he's made $3.00 a share in profit. Even that isn't bad.
Just a thought. I'm considering doing some of that. |
