What's up with the economy?

Today's news that the bailout bill was defeated in the house after Nancy Pelosi's blatantly partisan speech, was quite disturbing. I saw pictures of horrified traders on the floor of the stock exchange. They all looked like their best friend had just died. I'm wondering if bailing out the banks is the right thing to do. I'm wondering if NOT bailing out the banks is the right thing to do. It just looks really bad. Regular people are losing LOTS of money right along with the banks. Glad I'm not in the mortgage business...

Yeah, he does seem to be pretty knowledgeable about finances on that scale. I am just trying to learn as much as possible without all the spins that the politicians put on it.
