Proverbs 6:16-19
 

16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

If you read what is spoken of there, the actions and attitude described, is that a pretty good description of the 1992 General Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah and the resulting Affirmation Statement?

Well, I was there and I'd have to say, "Yes."

But to kind of mitigate the fib that was told that finally got the measure passed you have to understand the social dynamics of the UPC and I didn't really understand them at the time despite being in the midst of it.

You also have to understand the term "evangelistically speaking."

I for one would like to see this phrase abolished from our lexicon. The Evangel or the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is not and never should be used as an excuse to lie.
