Modesto UPC being sued?

Rev. Dr. Cheryl Elliott v. Randy Keyes; The United Pentecostal Church of Modesto; Does, No. RG09-438883 (Oakland Super. Ct. filed 3/2/2009)

Negligence action. Defendant Keyes knocked the plaintiff over backward when he hit her forehead without warning in the practice of "laying hands," and he neither helped her up nor acknowledged the incident afterward.

Interesting. I noticed they referred to the plaintiff as a "Dr. Reverend" but poor ole defendent Randy Keyes was not given recognition as a "reverend".

Was this one preacher laying hands on another in a service?

I didn't realize that Randy Keyes pastored in Modesto? Or was he just a guest speaker there when this happened.

Good point about the Rev. DR. bit.

Randy Keyes has pastored in Modesto for a long time.

This is what happens when a church hits a certain size, it becomes a target for frivolous lawsuits. Their insurance is about to skyrocket.

Back when I was a really young feller, one of the Bustard boys came through the church my girlfriend (now my wife) attended.

At the time I was a filthy heathen. ;)

Anyhoo, I was standing at the left end of a pew, right next to the center aisle, when Rev. Bustard decided to run down the aisle and slap everyone in the forehead as hard as he could.

Now, mind you, I didn't have my eyes closed, I wasn't praying, and I was only there because of my smokin' hot girlfriend.

So the Bustard guy comes through and slaps the fire out of my forehead.

He shook me around some, and then got frustrated cause all I was doing was glaring at him. I didn't understand why he had to smack me like that.

I wanted to deck the guy!

Anyways, I started losing my hair soon afterwards.

Yep.

That faith healer slapped the hair right off'n my head!

Sounds like you need to check into the statute of limitations! He should at least pay for plugs or a nice setup from Hair Club for Men. Not to mention the psychological trauma of being called "Kojak", etc, etc. at such a young age.

"Lowering the bar..." The site is aptly named. I'd be ashamed to make a claim on something like this... but I guess that's why "Rev. Dr. Cheryl Elliott" is a "Reverend Doctor." whatanidiot.

SPIRITUAL LIFE RENEWAL
Rev. Dr. Cheryl D. Elliott

Developing and Practicing the Prayer-Filled Life

Prayer changes your behavior, your conversation,
you gain strength against sin, you will be refreshed,
renewed and revived.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Pray the Scriptures, quote the Psalms, the Promises, the Passion
of Christ. “Create within me a clean heart and renew a right
spirit within me” (Ps. 51:10) “No weapon formed against
me shall prosper…” (Is a. 54:17).
Set aside an hour that will be free of distractions. Read, pray,
listen, write. Set aside ten minutes to thank God for everything
you can think of.
Sit in silence for fifteen minutes listening to God: God will speak through scripture, a song, a thought, an emotion, a quiet still voice……
Take a walk, sit in a park, look at the sky, see flowers, birds,
moon, stars—consider the majesty, the greatness, the awesomeness of God and express those feelings and
revelations out loud to God.
Flash prayers: Riding a bus, standing in a line, in a waiting room, before a meeting, in a group, wherever you are, inwardly ask God
to touch the lives of others with His presence. Pray for whoever
and whatever you see.
Pray three times a day: Morning, Noon, Night.
Ask God to wake you up with a pray on your lips.
Fast from television for a day, a week, a month and use that
extra time to develop your prayer life.
Regularly attend: Prayer Meetings.
Regularly pray with a prayer partner(s).
Regularly pray alone – just you and God.
~~~~
“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we
may obtain mercy and find grace to help in the time of need.”
(Hebrew 4:16)
~~~~
PRAY AND WATCH HOW YOU
Here is a nice little contemplative prayer piece from the rev, Dr. Holiness Cheryl old buddy.
A lawsuit shows a lack of forgiveness and a need for healing and deliverance.
