cut the corners of their hair
What does this mean? Some kind of pagan practice?
# Jeremiah 9:26 Egypt, Judah, Edom, the sons of Ammon, Moab, and all who dwell in the desert who cut the corners of their hair, for all these nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in heart." # Jeremiah 25:23 Dedan, Tema, Buz, and all who cut the corners of their hair; # Jeremiah 49:32 Their camels shall become plunder, their herds of livestock a spoil. I will scatter to every wind those who cut the corners of their hair, and I will bring their calamity from every side of them, declares the LORD. |
Re: cut the corners of their hair
I believe the word hair refers to beard.
ref: Leviticus 19:27 Ye shall not round the corners of your heads, neither shalt thou mar the corners of thy beard. Leviticus 21:5 They shall not make baldness upon their head, neither shall they shave off the corner of their beard, nor make any cuttings in their flesh. |
Re: cut the corners of their hair
It would be an idication of some who are outside the covanant or live outside of the Law of Moses.

And I'm trying to figure out why God felt so strongly about it. It's mentioned in several different places. God really didn't like it, but I can't find where it says why. |

Re: cut the corners of their hair
I think I read a while back that someone said there was a pagan practice associated with this particular type of cut, but I can't find the reference.
I've been googling, too, but haven't found it yet. |
