Mark 1:4 John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.

Mt 3:6 And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.

Mr 1:5 And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins.

What do you think about the "for" in Mark 1:4. It is the same Greek word we find in Acts 2:38 for the word, "for". Does it mean "because of" or "in order to"?

Please consider that John's baptism was different from our baptism. Those being baptized repented and confessed their sins while in the river. It was a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.

or modify repentance?

i.e.
is it baptism for the remission of sins
or
repentance for the remission of sins?

Luke 24:45-48

45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,

46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:

47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

48 And ye are witnesses of these things.

They were to preach repentance and remission of sins, in HIS NAME among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. The apostles were to preach REPENTANCE and REMISSION OF SINS (in His Name). which was accomplished by baptism in Jesus Name for the REMISSION OF SINS. AND they would receive the Promise of the Father, (He would pour out His Spirit!) The would be empowered from on high.

The word remission and forgiveness is the same word they both mean the same thing.
Does God forgive a person when they truly repent or does God forgive one through water baptism in Jesus name ?

I think it's repentance that remit's sins. Otherwise, we would have to be baptized daily.

Mat 5:23 So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you,
Mat 5:24 leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.

This holds true even now... you have to be properly turned at heart before you offering anything is acceptable to God.. Thus true turning of the heart must have happened before you being united in sacrifice with Christ is acceptable unto him for remission. Repentance is a turning to christ to be united with him in baptism.
