Global Warming reading

For those that are interested in learning more about Anthropogenic Global Warming (man made) and the real science that is being done to debunk the notion here are a few links that will give you tons of information.

This is Joseph D’Aleo’s web site.

JD is a brilliant Meteorologist and scientist and was the first Director if meteorology at the weather channel.
The front page is a great snapshot of what is happening right now. But there is a great deal of information on the site.

This is Anthony Watts’ site.

He has done some of the most important work (on going) in auditing data collection stations in North America. His work has proven that a very large percentage of the measured rise in temperature is a result of urbanization and that the data collection points are unreliable because they do not meet NOAA’s own standard. Watts continues that audit and his site has great deal of information.

This is Steve McIntyre’s site.

Steve is a world class statistical analyst. His work has centered on review of the infamous “Hockey Stick”. Somewhere around 1998 the IPCC put out a report that suggested that the Medieval Warming Period never existed. That report shows a very flat line for temperature going back more than a thousand years with a dramatic rise in the last 50 years. If you saw Al Gore’s movie, this was the central argument for man made global warming.

The Hockey Stick and the removal of the MWP is crucial to the AGW argument. Without it, we have a period of 300 years where the earth’s temperature was 3 degrees warmer than today and thus it would be impossible to suggest that the warming today is caused by man when the previous warming was more dramatic, lasted longer and was not man caused.

The Hockey Stick began with Michael Mann. Steve eventually was able to reconstruct Mann’s methodology and he proved that Mann’s method was wrong. Basically Mann was using a mathematical formula that produced a Hockey Stick reconstruction regardless of the input data going into the system. Mann was proven to be wrong.

Then in the last year (September 2009) Steve got the data related to Keith Briffa’s update of the Hockey Stick and after reviewing it, proved that Briffa based the entire thing on a cherry picked set of trees in Russia. Again Steve proved the HS to be a false indicator.

There is a giant amount of actual hard science on this site that is fascinating.

This site is has many scientific papers and consolidates a great deal of information. Lord Christopher Monkton is the Policy driver of this site.

http://scienceandpublicpolicy.org/

This is another great site with detailed scientific papers.

http://www.thegwpf.org/

This is a scientific paper that covers climate during the Carboniferous period. It has a great deal of information on CO2 levels thru Earths history. The site itself if a geological site with a lot of other information and scientific papers. Great reading for nerds like me who love science and want to understand the greater detail of exactly what is being debated in the AGW area.

This is a peer reviewed scientific paper:

A 2000-YEAR GLOBAL TEMPERATURE RECONSTRUCTION
BASED ON NON-TREERING PROXIES by Craig Loehle

Refer back to Steve McIntyre’s work. This reconstruction does not use the Tree Ring proxy that was the basis of the Mann/Briffa work. It proves the existence of the MWP.

This is another peer reviewed paper that goes a long way to proving the MWP was also evident in the Southern Hemisphere.
This evidence is devastating to the AGW argument that whatever warming occurred in what is known as the MWP was regionalized in the northern Hemisphere.

Do I believe everything I read?

No.

do I know who Joseph D'Aleo, Steven McIntyre and Anthony Watts are?

you bet. and I know what their work is.

I also know who Roger Pelkie and Roger Jr. are too.

I also know who Lord Monkton is.

And the peer reviewed papers listed here are peer reviewed and thus should be treated as any scientific paper. That means read it and weigh the evidence.

Here's my beef with the Global Warming argument: if its hot somewhere = global warming, if it gets cold = gw, if it rains = gw, if its dry = gw, if snow melts =gw, if it snows 30 feet of snow = gw, if the wind blows, if someone sneezes, if an old man farts = gw.

You can't argue color with the blind...

That pretty well sums it up. lol
