Do I Have To Forgive Tiger?

I am not starting this thread to be controversial, nor am I challenging anything anyone has said on the other Tiger threads.

I simply have a question, ..... in relationship to some of the statements made on the other post.

Here are some of those statements and I am not posting them to be negative, just using them as a launching point.

Someone said.......

1) ...... Although he doesn't need forgiveness from me.

2) What's up with all this forgiveness, anyway? What do you or I have to forgive him for?

3) He don't need forgiveness from me, he didn't do anything to me at all.

Tiger looked into the camera and asked for forgiveness.

Am I Biblically required to forgive him?

If I do forgive him will I still be critical of him?

Will true forgiveness toward Tiger affect me? In what way?

Just........

Tiger did nothing wrong to me and his status in our home as someone we highly value, respect, love, & appreciate, has not changed. At all. Nowhere close.

I wish he wouldn't have had to do the world-wide apology, because he opens himself up to self-righteous hypocrites condemning him further for anything they can think of.

However, must I forgive Tiger based on scripture? Well, maybe not, actually. Matthew 6:14 says that if I don't forgive others, then I will not be forgiven. So it's pretty simple, actually. If I'm able to live the rest of my life without ever doing anything wrong for which I'd need to be forgiven, then no prob......I won't forgive him. Of course, the first time I do something wrong, I might need to reconsider.

However, since Tiger didn't do anything wrong to me, I don't have anything to, necessarily, forgive him for. But since he apologized to me, I'll gladly forgive him. Absolutely, happily, and bountifully. And even though he didn't do anything wrong to me, I still should forgive, just to make sure I always have the attitude of forgiveness.

Since I frequently need to obtain mercy, I'll gladly be merciful.

Only if he wronged you in some way. As someone that doesn't have a personal relationship with him, I don't think you are required to forgive him. But, there but for the grace of God, go you and I. I have no problem forgiving others, but Tiger Woods is only responsible to God and his family for forgiveness.

Re: Do I Have To Forgive Tiger?

If a pastor commits adultery does it only affect him or does it affect his whole congregation, the organization he is a part of, and anyone that looks up to him?

In short, those who are looked up to, their actions affect more than just the people directly involved. So yes, Tiger should have apologized to his fans just as a pastor who had done something similar ought to seek the forgiveness of everyone who his actions may have indirectly affected. Just remember, inspiration is a powerful thing, and for many people, Tiger's sin took away some of the inspiration he provides. If nothing else, this is what his actions done to the people not directly involved.

It is reported that someone told John Wesley, "I never forgive." To which John Wesley replied, "Then, sir, I hope you never sin."

Dear Abby or Ann Landers (I get them mixed up) once said, "He who will not forgive others destroys the bridge over which he himself must also cross, for we all need forgiveness."

The only one's whom TW should apologize and seek forgiveness from are those were personally involved in his moral failure. TW golf fans aren't among them. His wife, children and the women he used to try to satisfy his lust are the only ones due an apology.

I neither need nor accept an apology. He did nothing personally to me or my family, so Biblically I'm not owed an apology nor need I give forgiveness.

It is funny how his many mistresses get off scott free, and are even celebrated.

Of course this is always the case. I remember Jessica Hahn making the talk show rounds while Jim Baker got the shaft.

If I hold Tiger guilty of some injustice, I have an unforgiving spirit. Even if the injustice was not done to me.

It is with that attitude that I must approach his appology. He has offered it. I accept on face value his contrition. It is not a matter of him having done something to me. It is a matter of me not holding him guilty some kind of grudge for what he has done.

Ferd, that was sorta my thoughts. If my feelings are negative toward him and his speech causes me to be vexed in spirit then I feel that it is to my benefit to find forgiveness in my heart as I pray for him and his family. He won't know one thing about my act of forgiveness, but I sure will. Just thinkin'

Love this.....

“He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?” Micah 6:8, KJV.
