My Daughter Lied!!
 

My daughter, who is a very devout Christian, Lied.

She told her 3 year old daughter, who needs to take medicine for Strep Throat, it's CANDY!!!!!

She gobbles up the medicine and is getting well. If she tells her it's medicine, it's over. Prying her mouth open is like trying to open the jaws of a Pitt Bull!!

We laughed about this, but it's still a LIE! According to some, ALL liars will go to that "Other Place". When I was a Catholic, we called these, "White Lies".

What's interesting, EVERYONE lies! So we are ALL liars. I guess we're ALL going to that "Other Place".

In the purest form of definition, it's medicine. The medicine was purchased at the pharmacy, and required the signature of a doctor, and the reason for taking the medicine is to kill the disease. Candy is for pleasure, and medicine is for illness.

Nowhere on the bottle does it say, "Candy". And, the reason she tells her its candy is because she LOVES candy and hates medicine. The “Reason” in this situation outweighs the fact that there might be sugar in the medicine.

If the bottle said, “Candy Medicine”, then I would agree with you.

This is an Ethics discussion.

Does intention mean anything for lying? What is going on in the heart of the liar? Trying to present himself in an image to gain approval of others over approval of God? Trying to hurt someone? Avoiding responsibility? Or trying to speaking in a child's language that what they are about to eat essentially tastes like candy.

I'm assuming the medicine tasted like candy?

To me, this seems exactly like God saying "If you eat of the fruit of the tree you will surely die." As a human I would naturally assume that God meant I would physically die, but turns out he meant something else. You're daughter says it's candy in order to convey the fact that it tastes like candy, but actually its something else. *shrug* Seems pretty similar to me.

BT, that little Pitt Bull, I mean granddaughter, is a FIESTY one!! When she says NO, she means NO! They took her to the dentist and she would not open her mouth, period!! My daughter had to physically PRY her mouth open as she screamed in terror!

My daughter and I were in hysterics on the phone last night when I told her I was going to post this on AFF!! When she was telling me this story about giving her the medicine, she had to SPELL the word CANDY. I asked her, what would happen if you said the word? She said that the LITTLE PITT BULL would tear the kitchen apart looking for the TREASURE!
