Interesting........
I have had several friends on Facebook pass along a post that says, "If you have been baptized in the name of Jesus Christ and not ashamed to shout it out, click on share"
The interesting thing is that I know all of these people VERY well and can tell you that I am 100% positive that they've #1) not ever been baptized in Jesus'name and #2) have no idea what that even means. Is this a new trend or what is it??? |
Re: Interesting........
They have the understanding (not saying I agree) that it is not necessary to say "in the name of Jesus" in order to be baptized in the name of Jesus.

I'm not sure that I'm convinced either way as to whether the NAME has to be said in baptism or whether saying "in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" is sufficient. I DO very much prefer baptism when a person is old enough to make that decision for themselves. But I think it bothers me a little that people posted this originally because it DID mean something to them. But now half the world has jumped on the bandwagon, passing it along as if they themselves had been baptized in Jesus' name, when they really don't have any idea what they're saying. Like I said, it just seems to take away a little of the sacredness associated. Have any of the rest of you seen this posted on Facebook? Have you initiated a conversation with the person who posted it, explaining in a kind and loving way what it means? I'm curious the reactions. |

However, that these others interpret the meaning of Baptism in Jesus Name differently, doesn't equate "not meaning anything to them" nor that they don't hold it sacred. |

I also wondered about it, since seeing it on FB.
