Is Pledge of Allegiance Unbiblical?

Matthew 5:33-35

New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

Concerning Oaths

33 “Again, you have heard that it was said to those of ancient times, ‘You shall not swear falsely, but carry out the vows you have made to the Lord.’ 34 But I say to you, Do not swear at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God, 35 or by the earth, for it is his footstool, or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.

James 5:12

New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

12 Above all, my beloved,[a] do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath, but let your “Yes” be yes and your “No” be no, so that you may not fall under condemnation.

do these verses apply to pledging allegiance, taking military oaths or swearing in of politicians? are these oaths contrary to biblical directives, placing oaths above God's word?

Pledging allegiance is not swearing.

Is this akin to the difference between a television and a monitor?

The 'pledge' was cooked up by old school national socialists.

We cannot pledge our allegiance to something when our allegiance belongs to Christ and him alone.

The Kingdom of God is spiritual.
USA is natural.
"Render to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God."

I DID pledge my allegiance to my wife when we were married -in a manner of speaking.

That's different. The flag can't cook or do all those other things a good wife can do.

:thumbsup
