Discrepancy in Matthew's Genealogy
 

Matthew 1:7-9

King James Version (KJV)

7 And Solomon begat Roboam; and Roboam begat Abia; and Abia begat Asa;
8 And Asa begat Josaphat; and Josaphat begat Joram; and Joram begat Ozias;
9 And Ozias begat Joatham; and Joatham begat Achaz; and Achaz begat Ezekias;


now compare to chronicles




1 Chronicles 3:10-12

King James Version (KJV)

10 And Solomon's son was Rehoboam, Abia his son, Asa his son, Jehoshaphat his son,
11 Joram his son, Ahaziah (ozias in matthew)his son, Joash his son,
12 Amaziah his son, Azariah his son, Jotham his son,


notice ozias in matthew is same as ahaziah in chronicles. between ahaziah and jotham is joash, amaziah and azariah. matthew says ahaziah/ozias begat jotham, but in chronicles there are 3 additional generations. jotham is ahaziah's great great grandson, not his son. calling all biblical inerrancy advocates to the thread!!!

some times names are left out in geneologies.

some times a grandfather is listed as a father

Matthew just rounded it off to show 3 groups of 14 generations

Semitic writings are more concerned with the lesson than historical accuracy
