Malaysian aircraft shot down in the Ukraine

Just saw this now on Foxnews! So sad. 295 people have not been officially confirmed dead, but an official on the ground says that all passengers did not make it.

I seriously question the decision to send a civilian flight on a route through Ukraine, towards the Russian border.

Are people just that ignorant, that unaware?

Apparently flights through that area are supposed to keep above 32,000 feet. This flight was barely above that floor, at 33,000 feet.

That said, I don't think commercial air carriers thought anti-aircraft missiles were a problem. They were wrong.

Second tradegy this year for that same airline. Not a good year to have stocks in it.

Can't this happen just about anywhere? People have these missiles. It's not a mistake. You can tell it's an airliner vs a war jet

Perhaps it is time to start putting anti-aircraft protection on airliners.
It is expensive but it is a cost that may just have to be done.

at least for those flying in high risk areas.

You have to train Pilots in military avionic tactics. You don't just put stuff on a jet.

You have to determine if it's radar or heat seeking. Then you have to use the appropriate method (flares or foil) and take evasive action

How about a military escort, like they do to ships passing by Ethiopia?

Is anyone claiming responsibility for this atrocious act yet?
