Good commentaries?
Hey, can anybody recommend some good commentaries of the scriptures? Specifically something to help in studying the prophets.
I've been meaning to pick up a chronological bible to help with understanding the context of the time as well, but I'm not sure what my options are on that. |

If a person starts on the wrong foundation the whole building will be crooked, the fact that they start with a Trinitarian beliefs makes most of their commentaries go crooked. I know that some people say to eat the meat and throw the bones, but I would not like to take the risk and mistake a bone for a nice piece of steak. |
Re: Good commentaries?
The New International Commentary on the New Testament, and the one on the Old Testament are the first one's I would grab when in college.
The International Standard Bible Enclycopedia is online and free. It is not a commentary, but looking up subjects like "Isaiah" is a great jumping off place. |
Re: Good commentaries?
Lasor and Hubbard penned a great survey of the Old testament.
Introduction to OT Prophetic Books by Bullock is a good book. Bookfinder.com is the best place to find old titles in print. |

Alfred Edersheim wrote an Old Testament History which is pretty good. A good chronology is Ussher's Annals of the World. I think they are both online for free. |
