Acts 2:38 in first several chapters of Acts
I noticed once while studying that the essence and truth of Acts 2:38 is repeated in chapter after chapter in Acts.
Act 2:36-38 KJV Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. (37) Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? (38) Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Act 3:18-19 KJV But those things, which God before had shewed by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled. (19) Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; Act 4:10-12 KJV Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. (11) This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. (12) Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Act 5:30-32 KJV The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree. (31) Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins. (32) And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him. The CROSS and the NAME were repeated over and over again. |
Absolutely, it was the central theme of the gospel message. Christ died to
grant repentance and remission of sins. The apostles preached his name everywhere they went. Peter's message to Cornelius household concluded with the words "To Him give all the prophets witness, that through His name, whosoever believeth in Him shall receive remission of sins. While Peter yet spake these words the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word." This makes me think of Romans chapter 10, "Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God." |

And Peter said baptism saves us. Jesus did nto say "He that beleiveth and is saved shall be baptized if they want." Baptism was adjoined to belief for salvation. No way around it. Quote:

Luk 24:47 AMP And that repentance [with a view to and as the condition of] forgiveness of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. Repentance is with a VIEW TO forgiveness of sins. And Acts 2:38 clearly lays out that repentance AND BAPTISM are for remission of sins. Faith must be followed by works that prove faith, but not works that save. James 2. FOR THE REMISSION OF SINS is the same greek terms used in the same order as follows: Quote:
