Question for Pastors
Is it normal procedure to title your automobile in the church's name for insurance and tag purposes?
|
It's not normal to me, but I'm not normal either.... lol

Yeah.

Maybe if the pastor had some sort of transportation remuneration thing set up as part of his compensation maybe something of the sort wouldn't be so out of the question....I dunno. Never really heard of it.

It is not necessary to do so. We had our pastors vehicles in his own name and yet I was able to get insurance for those same vehicles on our church policy with no problem. Its not a big deal either way I dont feel and they can be insured etc even if they arent in the churches name (btw i am not a pastor but my husband was assistant pastor and I was church secretary so I thought id weigh in on this sorry if my opinion isnt wanted LOL)

There's a few reasons a Pastor or Church might do this. For instance, in Illnois, if the car is in the Church name then no tax has to be paid on/for the vehicle. That is not the case everywhere. Thats one reason it can be in the Church's name. (This would be one of the main reasons that a car is titled in a Church's name) Different Churches have different ways of taking care of their Pastors. Rather than take a larger salary the Pastor might be compensated by the Church paying for his car. |
