Cover letters

I'm not sure I understand this 100%, so just want to be clear. Are there UPCI ministers who sign the AS, as required for license renewal, who don't actually agree to it, but add a cover letter saying so? Is that how it works (for some)?

That's what I've always understood..... then others just sign it but don't conform to it.

How many ministers left the UPC when the AS came into play?

Yeah, 99.99%, according to the writer of that "soul stirring" letter. :sly

And the UPCI is OK with this cover letter technique? They get two pieces of paper from a minister, one saying "I agree" and one saying "No, I don't", and that's good enough for them? Interesting.

Yes, interesting. I'm working currently on a letter of disclosure to my Pastor.
I want to continue to be used in the pulpit and leading the service, yet I will not adhere to the rules put in place to do so. They are your personal preferences and do not apply to me.

Think that'll work?

Anyone else with thoughts on this?

From what I understand, when the AS went into effect, Bro. Urshan and Bro Becton wrote a letter to the ministers which basically said, "just sign the AS, how you interpret it is up to you, and nobody will press charges over it." In other words, "You have to sign but don't take it seriously."

I think the letter was posted on here or another forum at some time or another.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.
And maybe someone will post Bro. Urshan's letter and let you see how you interpret it.

Sam:

You're right. I was very concerned about the AS when it was first passed, but when I received Brother Becton's letter, it really put the issue to bed for me. I don't remember the exact wording, but essentially, it said, "Cooperate with the AS, and as pastor, you have the local authority to teach and preach as directed by the Lord."

I still believe that to be truth...
