He was a man with a mission – he was also a man whose mission would cause him to have to die an early death. He was a man who had a mother.

The joy of the birth of a child – but oh the pain that the death of that child can bring. If you are like I am and have never experienced the death of one of your children then we have no idea of the feelings that Elizabeth felt when she heard that the Head of John Baptist was required of a ruler.

But you see this was all the plan of God. For Jesus to step to the place to begin His earthly ministry it was the plan of God that John Baptist – the forerunner of Jesus – to face the final step of this life – death/.

Yet the first time that we find mention of John is around the time that he jumped in the womb of his mother Elizabeth as she and Mary the Mother of Jesus were talking.

His life was cut short, this had to hurt, but his Mother teaches us that the things of God are the most important – even if it hurts now.

Elizabeth was a Mission Minded Mother. The things of God are first and most important.

As we are here on this Mother’s Day in 2006 you and I need to be thankful for the Spirit of Elizabeth which lives on in a Real Mother today to teach us that the Mission is more important than the person.

The Mission – the Will of God for your life is more important than anything else that you or I will ever face.

Today in this place every Real Mother of God will instill that in her children.

I remember hearing my mother tell me and hearing her pray – that I live for Him and do His will first in my life.

Mothers – please let your children hear you pray that prayer – let them know that you understand that the Will and Plan of God are first and foremost in their lives.

Thank you for teaching them:
• Talent is not the most important thing
• Popularity is not the most important thing
• Education (while important) is not the most important thing
• Fame is not the most important thing
• Having your name in the lights of this world is not the most important thing
• Wealth is not the most important thing
• Health is not the most important thing

Elizabeth teaches us that the most important thing is to do the Will and Mind of God. Even if it hurts.

Elizabeth – A Mother – It is all about the Mission.
I mentioned her sister-in-law just a few minutes ago.

Her husband had died – she was left alone – but she was a fearless person.

When we say fearless we do not mean that the spirit of fear was not present – we simply mean that she refused to give into it.

Ruth was left alone – but we find that she made the statements to her mother in law that where she went she would go and that the people of her mother-in-law would become her people.

Ruth was fearless.

She went to glean in the fields of Boaz.

• She started out with the corners of the field
• She then received handfuls on purpose
• She ended up marrying the man who owned the field.

She went from receiving the share that belonged to the paupers to being the wife of the owner.

She knew how to look fear in the eye and win the victory. She did the impossible.

No not that she came back after the death of her husband – but that because of her spirit of fearlessness she became somebody.

This is a trait of a true mother. Fearless.

When you go through the 66 books of the Bible – one of them is titles RUTH.

This fearless woman is found in the generations of Matthew 1, in her grandchildren below her we find David, Solomon and Jesus.

All because she faced her fear and stepped out in faith.

This is the Spirit of a Real Mother – Fearless.

This is a trait of Real Mother – this is what a real mother places in the heart of her children – a spirit of faith and one that does not give into the fears that this life will throw at you.

There will come a day when you who are Mothers will not be able to kiss away the booboos of life on your children yourself – it is something that you have to get in the heart of your children – that way they will have the faith to kiss away the booboos that life will throw at them.

You teach and place faith in your children.

Thank you Ruth for teaching us about fearlessness. Thank you Ruth for teaching us about Faith.

This is the trait of a real mother.

Mothers are special – if yours is alive today – you need to go and spend time with them if at all possible – if not call. If not find someone and tell them Happy Mothers Day in honor of your Mother.

If you didn’t have a mother to teach you these things – you can teach them to your children – you can let them become a part of your life.

These are the traits of a Mother. Thank you Mothers for constantly giving them to us everyday.

I realize that everybody cannot fulfill this next request – but some can and it is important.

I want the Mothers who are here today that have their children, some or all I want you to go and let your children know that they will always be in your prayer and you will fight for them. I want you to tell them now. Tell them the things that you want to and do it without fear.

They need to know how MUCH you love them.
