The word "tables" can also be referring to, in the Hebrew, "a counter for money".
Barnes: "Here the expression means, therefore, to attend to the pecuniary transactions of the church, and to make the proper distribution for the needs of the poor."
IMO, the definition is more reasonable in speaking of a task chosen for a man in a Biblical time frame.
