That's not a new trend. People have been standing and clapping to the word for many years. I don't see what is wrong with it unless they really are only standing because everyone else is. There is nothing wrong with enthusiasm.
On the other hand I see a trend that seems to have been given life with the advent of public forums and that is the tendency to criticize anything and everything. We used to call what you mentioned supporting the word....now it's being called programmed response to inflate the ego of the preacher. Sad.
