I still want to know what is going on in people's heads that they come up with these kinds of names that have no basis whatsoever in anything genuinely ethnic (meaning that it can be traced back to a specific ethnic origin) - names that are, instead, just made up out of thin air. I think the worst ones are the ones that put feminine endings on boys' names (Dakaritia) or do other things to feminize a boy's name before giving it to him (LaShawn).

My family (both sides) is notorious for givng odd names to their offspring (for example, I have a distant cousin whose middle name is Vondata and another whose first name is Ocie; I have an ancestor on my mother's side named Pricy); but generally those names can be traced to some ethnic origin and, so, that's at least somewhat reasonable (like an Irish family naming their daughter Fiona or an African family naming their son Mbeki). But when you just do stupid stuff like use days of the week or the names of diseases or try to make up something because you think it sounds French (many of the "black" names in America) or come up with other strange sounds (Dweezil) or are simply being cruel (Chastity, Demona, Syphyllis, Gonorrhea, Moon Unit, naming your son Hope or Faith or Shirley or Beverly or some other girly name, and some of the names celebrities have come up with), well, that makes no sense.
