To be fair, Coonskinner penned the better of the first two parodys:
Quote:
I'm a Pentecostal but I'm really not so glad
I'd like to be on TBN cause standards make me mad
My heroes all wear pinky rings, I wish that I could too
But maybe after Tampa then my dreams can all come true
And I can finally be myself without a trace of fear
I'm a closet charismatic wondering why I am still her
I'm so much nicer, smarter and more spiritual than you
And if you weren't conservative you'd know that it was true
You're just a Neo-Pharisee and bound with all your rules
And in my secret heart of hearts I think that you're all fools
My arrogance is rancid though it's cloaked as nicey-nice
Embarassed by my heritage I hate to pay the price
I'd chuck my card this minute if I knew I'd lose no folks
But there still might be one or two who'd rather bear the yokes
And staying in enables me to barb and cut and smear
I'm a closet charismatic, wondering why I am still here

I had to concede he blistered me with this one after my original parody (which was pretty lame on another forum). After he reposted this here, I had to try and get a touche.
Thanks for the inspiration CS! And BTW, I really don't know you or your friends so there is no way of me knowing if the parody reflects you or them or not. Its all in good fun---(wink, wink, nod, nod)
Sorry to offend anyone. I'm not mocking anyone's worship. I'm taking the song to the extreme. Prax you made some good points on the other thread and I didn't respond so I'll say here, you are right, I am making judgments about the song and the motives for the song and the attitudes of those worshipping along with the song. If it encourages ONE soul and builds their faith and helps them to get saved or get closer to Jesus, then the song is worth it and I need to shut up and leave well enough alone.
I want the ucs to leave us mods/libs alone on tv. I should practice the same when it comes to others I dont' see eye to eye with. My sincerest apologies and heartfelt thanks for helping me see I was reacting with knee-jerk reflexes.
