I lean toward possessed. The walking on water thing leads me to believe that he is paving the way for the Anti Christ to do signs and wonders.

He is good at illusion and on a personal mission to keep OTHERS from being fooled by illusions.
It is really very scary to think of how EASY a time the anti-christ will have at fooling people. A few "words of knowledge" and some special effects, and the room will be filled with true believers.
