TopDog,

I was UPC from the time I was about 14 years old (at that point I got kicked out the Swanton Missionary Church for going to First Apostolic Church in Toledo on Sunday evenings). I stayed UPC until I met my husband and we got married (when I was 30! GASP!) I knew there was no way in the world that Walt would consider a Pentecostal Church of any sort. He's very reserved so it would made him very, very uncomfortable. About that time some things had happened in the local UPC church as well that made it easy for me to decide to leave and start attending church with Walt.

We married and went to the local Methodist Church for the next almost 20 years. That was a HUGE stretch for me and I learned a great deal over those years. Not about doctrine or things like that. What I learned, I learned from God.

After all those years in the Methodist church, they sent us a pastor who was doing some VERY crooked things! Seriously! I was in the position of Administrative Council Chairperson and my husband was on the Board of Trustees. We finally decided that these were things that we did NOT want to be implicated in the middle of. So we left. It was not an easy decision, especially for Walt, but we've never been sorry we did it

We decided to start visiting some churches in our town and just see where we fit in the best and felt the Lord wanted us. The first church we visited was the CMA church and then we never went to any other. We fell in love with the people that first Sunday and put down firm roots in short, short order. We've been there for about 5 years now. They recently learned they are getting a new pastor at the Methodist church. We've had people calling to ask if we would come back now. But our answer is a very firm "no". We loved it that first Sunday and we love it still.

So that's the long and short of it. By the way, there are NO Pentecostal churches in our town. The nearest church would be a half hour drive away from us. I want my boys involved in their church youth group. That would be much too far away for them to be involved. And besides, the UPC church I'm talking about has absolutely no youth
