I use it as an antibiotic. Garlic honey tea is..not the best tasting stuff, but not too bad, and extremely good for colds and the flu. It's also highly effective for upset stomachs. Garlic oil is good for ear stuff. Taking crushed cloves in honey (taste and honey itself is a very useful thing) is probably the best way to take them, unless you're really hating garlic and you crush it and stick it inside of empty capsules. You can also cut a clove into 2 or 3 pieces and swallow them like pills.

One caution...garlic is...well...garlic. Eat with it if you're trying the crushed in honey or raw cloves as pills method or it might upset your tummy. And if you want to use it on your skin, mix it into a cream or oil base to dilute it. It *can* burn if not used with caution. (and that bit about yeast infections? Do please keep this in mind before trying that.....it's very effective, but if you're sensitive..that is not something you want to find out after sleeping through your experiment...)

The thing in garlic (it starts with an A and I'd have to look it up to get it right..lol) that is useful for illnesses and infections is produced when the clove is crushed. If you crush the clove and let it set for 20 minutes or so, you'll be getting a lot more effective dose than if you take it immediately (and that's why I let my garlic oil sit for awhile).
And if anyone is going to grow their own garlic it is time to get it in the ground now. Garlic should winter in the ground for a June harvest. Onions too... Leeks... etc
