Your post immediately brings to mind Mark 16:16
Mr 16:16 - He that believeth(trusts) and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
The implications of the master are clear, if you believe(trust) you will be baptized gladly and thus salvation is at hand, if you don't believe(trust) in Him and His Word, baptism will not be an issue as a result.
Many believe in Jesus, that is, that he exists, not many trust.

I agree with the idea that you must believe or you probably won't go and get baptized. It is the will in us allowing us to do it. After belief an action you do is
Mark 16:16 is the action of the will fulfilling that believing. The Ethiopian eunich was told by Phillip "if you believe you may be baptized" The eunuch said I believe and Phillip baptized him straightway(immediately).
